PATRICIA KELLY CARRIGAN 1957 - 2014 It is with deep sadness we announce the passing of Patricia Kelly Carrigan on June 26 at Riverview Health Centre. Pat will be dearly missed by her father Milt, brother Greg and sister-in-law Wendy, nieces Melissa and Samantha; sister Christine and brother-in-law Stefan Kristjanson, niece Freyja, and Signy, Johann and Bjorn. She was predeceased such a short time ago by her mother Alice. We take comfort that they will be together now. Pat had such affection for her Grandma Carrigan. The strength and courage that she inherited from Grandma and even more from Mom and Dad carried her through this 6 month battle with cancer. Patti was born in Winnipeg on April 25, 1957. She attended Windsor and Glenlawn Schools where she met her dear friends, the "6-pack". Pat graduated from the Hotel and Restaurant Administration Program at Red River Community College in 1977. Pat's hospitality career started at the Niakwa Travelodge, then accepting a new opportunity with Minaki Lodge; followed by sales positions at most of the premiere hotels in Winnipeg. She represented all these companies with great pride and dedication. 15 years ago she joined Investors Group where she really settled into her event planning and contracting career. She enjoyed being the "client" to all the associates she had previously worked with and in helping to coordinate outstanding conferences and meetings. Pat completed her CMP (Certified Meeting Professional) designation and continued to contribute and volunteer with MPI (Meeting Planners International) study groups mentoring others. Pat treasured her good friends that she made over the years with industry partners, the IG Event Planning Team and through her travels to many corporate and MPI gatherings. One of her retirement goals was to be the "best volunteer", forgetting that she already was one. She was very generous with her time whenever asked, completing so many "little tasks" that we don't really know about! We know she would have "given back" with the same energy she gave to her career if she had been given the opportunity. Pat enjoyed travelling, from day trips with Alice, road trips with Christine, shopping trips to the US with friends, backpacking in Europe, England with her dear Grandma and even the "glamorous" corporate travel. However, her heart was still happiest at Lake Brereton. We will all miss our jar of blueberry jam at Christmas. Auntie Pat treasured her nieces. She was always there to love and support them as they grew up and enjoyed attending their activities just as much as discussing the latest book they were reading. Pat fought this battle with cancer with such strength and determination. She felt so fortunate to have the love and support of her family, dear friends and colleagues. She was proud of her "health care team" and we'd like to thank all the health care providers that cared for our sister over the last 6 months. She was always so aware and appreciative of the incredible job that you do. A celebration in Pat's honour will be held on Friday, July 4, 2014 from 2:00 - 5:00 p.m., with tributes at 3:15pm, at The Fairmont Winnipeg, 2 Lombard Place. In lieu of flowers, donations in Pat's memory may be made to a charity of your choice. Family and friends may sign a Book of Condolence at www.glenlawn.ca. Glen Lawn Funeral Home 982-7550

From The Six Pack: We call ourselves "The 6 Pack". We are Deb Couture, Nancy Johnston, Lorraine Legal, Debbie Vertone, Shelley Wilson and if course Patti Carrigan. Some of us have been friends for 50 plus years. That's a long time to be together. Our friendship means the world to us, we travel together, shop together and have countless dinners and get-togethers. The love we have for each other has no boundaries, we are devoted to making sure each other is happy. Patti was no exception to this rule, she spent countless hours planning our trips to Palm Springs. She was meticulous with her details and could herd us through airports like the pro she was. She knew all the ins and outs of travelling and only once in a while would get exasperated by our lack of travel savy. What a time we had! Also, one of the year's highlights held every August is our annual 6 Pack weekend at the Vertone cottage at Victoria Beach. The wine flowed and we had no trouble talking and having a good time from early morning to late into the night. One of our fondest memories and we all remember it clearly, was one year not so long ago, when it was very hot, yet very windy. We all headed down to the beautiful sandy beach to enjoy the day. The waves, which can be quite challenging when windy were large. Out we went like we were 10 years old to enjoy being knocked over and pushed around. We all remember very vividly Patti's shouts of joy, exclaiming that she had never been in waves like this and couldn't remember having so much fun. Her face showed complete joy and happiness. Her arms were thrown wide open and she was laughing uncontrollably. This is how we want to remember our Patti. You were our best friend and we will remain BFF's forever. We miss you now and we will miss you forever. We will always be "The 6 Pack". Rest well our dear dear friend, one day we will all be together again. We love you to pieces and to the moon and back a million, billion, trillion times. - Posted by: Debbie Klassen (Friend) on: Jul 04, 2014

Myself and my other colleagues from the Starwood family are deeply saddened by the loss of such a lovely lady! Pat you were the belle of the ball and I'll always remember the excitement in your voice when planning a trip to Palm Springs or our discussions on what you were doing for your Nieces. I know they must miss you terribly as we all do! You will always be in our thoughts and we know the sky is much brighter now that you're there. - Posted by: Terri Russell (Friend and Hospitality Colleague) on: Jul 04, 2014

Deepest sympathy, love and prayers to Greg, Wendy and the girls, Milt, Christine, Stefan and their family. I first met Pat in school, can't believe how long ago that was. And have looked forward to seeing her at Christmas when I come home. It just won't be the same without her. She had an infectious smile and laughter. But what I remember most about her is her devotion to her mom, Alice. Both of them will be sorely missed. This poem reminded me of how much Pat loved being at Brereton Lake. "Look at the lake in front of the gate. When the sun shines, it radiates light and brightness. When the wind comes, there arise ripples and waves. There is a time for peaceful contemplation; there is a time for dynamic action; and all the time the lake remains itself." -Yongming Yanshou I can't be there for the memorial today but will dedicate my meditation practice to her. Much love and hugs to all her family and friends. Namaste. Marie - Posted by: Marie Harlow (Family (in-law)) on: Jul 04, 2014

Pat was full of life and love. She treasured people more than anything and that was evident when she came to find us at a tradeshow in Toronto after only a few conversations with me over the phone. She valued people rather than what they could do for her. She was always smiling and positive and we will miss her dearly. I know you are up there still smiling down on us. Our sincere condolences to her family and her IG family. You now have an angel in heaven to watch over you. - Posted by: Lisa-Lynn Vas (Colleague from the Marriott Hotels at Niagara Falls) on: Jul 04, 2014

My thoughts are with the Carrigan family. It was always a pleasure when Patti and I would cross paths during her years in the hotel industry. We'd catch up briefly and she always seemed to have that next adventure partially under construction. I cannot remember ever leaving one of those chance occurrences not being very happy to have seen her again. - Posted by: Trevor Westwood (Schoolmate ) on: Jul 03, 2014

Sending our sympathy and love to Christine and her family. Although I did not know your sister, I certainly heard (from you) of Pat's energy and dedication to life and I know that you were the best sister she could ask for as she struggled through the last months. I also grew up going to Lake Brereton ! so maybe our spirits will meet there sometime in the future. Elaine & Glenn - Posted by: Elaine McIntyre & Glenn Lambert (friend) on: Jul 03, 2014

My favorite memory of Pat is seeing her catching some sun on the dock at Lake B. It was so apparent that she really enjoyed the warm peacefulness of that day. May she rest in peace now. Wishing God's comfort for her family and friends as she is remembered for the kind and giving person she was. - Posted by: Sandra Sadden ("42nd cousin") on: Jul 01, 2014

I originally met Pat in 1988 when she gained me as a client. She was the consummate professional and always so pleasant to work with, no matter how whacky the request was. I will never forget the day I told her we would be staging a coup during our conference at her hotel the following day complete with people in army uniforms carrying lifelike looking water pistols who would be kidnapping all the attendees and loading them onto buses that we wanted to park in the hotel's driveway. Her facial expression never changed as she smiled and said "of course". It wasn't until years later she told me that the voice inside her head was screaming "OH NO - WE HAVE GOVERNMENT REPRESENTATIVES FROM THE JAPANESE CONSULATE HERE THAT DAY. THEIR SECURITY TEAM WILL LOSE IT!!!" No, not Pat, she made it work by moving the consulate meeting many, many floors away and not saying a word. Pat was a joy to be around and always giving. After the coup incident, she was easily talked into joining a committee with us and performing the Moon Walk for an audience. She was a good sport, always asked someone how they were and really listened to what they had to say. I was blessed to have known her. - Posted by: Judy Morfitt (Client (1988), fellow committee member(1991/1992), co-worker at IG (2001 - 2013)) on: Jun 30, 2014
