GENE GEORGE DESJARLAIS (HAPPY JACK) It is with deep sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Gene Desjarlais, on June 30, 2014, at Ste. Anne Hospital, at the age of 77 Years. He was predeceased by his parents Jean and Eva Desjarlais, and siblings, Edward, Gerald, Lorraine, Frederick, Ronald and Doreen. Left to cherish his memory are wife Alice Pagee, and her children, Garry, Bonny and her son Michael and his daughter Danielle, Terry and his daughters Kelly and Bailey. Also left are Gene's son Darryl [Wendy] and granddaughters Laufey and Lexie. He also leaves siblings Irene, Harold, Shirley, Esther, George, Connie and Anne, and their spouses and many nieces, nephews, and friends. Gene was born in Oak Point, MB, on September 26, 1936. He was the 7th of 14 children, and as fate would have it he was the 7th to leave us. He spent his childhood on the family farm in Oak Point. He left the farm in his early teens to forge his path in life. He traveled around working on farms and other various jobs, until he started his career as a butcher in Winnipeg. He spent over 40 years as a butcher at various packing plants, most notably Custom Abbatoire and Jack Forgan, until he retired at the age of 62. He was an outdoorsman, who enjoyed hunting and fishing. He loved working on cars, both his own and whoever asked for help. Two of his other favorite pass times where playing Bingo, and cards with family and friends. In 1991 he built his dream home outside of Ste. Anne, MB, where he enjoyed raising his chickens, turkeys and pigs. He spent many years working with Alice on their numerous gardens, and maintaining their 5 acres. Gene was blessed to have Alice by his side caring for him, which allowed him to remain in his home until his passing. A celebration of Gene's life will be held on Saturday, July 5, 2014, at 2:00 p.m., at Glen Lawn Funeral Home, 455 Lagimodiere Blvd. The family would like to thank friends Claude Perrin and Dave Casson for helping Alice get Gene to his many appointments. In lieu of flowers, donation may be made in Gene's memory to the Canadian Diabetes Society. Family and friends may sign a Book of Condolence at www.glenlawn.ca Glen Lawn Funeral Home 204-982-7550
