ANNE PETRIW (nee EWANKO) It is with great sadness that the family announces the passing of Anne Petriw on June 25, 2014. Anne was born October 21, 1929 and spent her childhood in the North End of Winnipeg. Her early activities centered around Blessed Virgin Mary Church where she was active in organizations such as Children of Mary, Ukrainian Dance and choir. She attended Faraday and Isaac Newton schools, participating in sports and drama productions. At a wedding Anne met the love of her life Daniel Petriw. They were married October 18, 1952. They started their married life living on the farm with Dan's parents Mary and Dymtro Petriw. Anne was always a hard worker, as a homemaker, raising five children while finding time for gardening, canning, cooking and baking. She loved to entertain making it look easy to cook for a houseful of guests. She was truly happiest when she was surrounded by and caring for, her family. Shortly after Dan's sudden death on January 15, 1989, Anne was lucky to find love again when she met Jack Klassen. They married on February 11, 1994. They enjoyed many years together going on vacations and spending time with family until his death on August 7, 2012. Anne's grandchildren were her pride and joy and always had a special place in her heart. She loved being "Baba" and even near the end of her life when she heard "Hi Baba" from one of her grandchildren she always responded with a smile. Music was a very important part of Anne's life as she was a member of many church and community choirs. She was a soloist at many weddings over the years and "Ava Maria" is a song her family will fondly remember her singing. A special time in Anne's life was when she had the opportunity to travel to Ukraine to spend time visiting with her relatives. She also had the chance to visit The Orient with her mother-in-law Mary and sister-in-law Lil which was a very memorable experience. Anne will be lovingly remembered and missed by her children Doug (Teresa) Petriw, Gary (Maryann) Petriw, Darlene (Colin) Bevis, Sandra (Ray) Salmon, Christine (Dave) Everley; her grandchildren Tara Petriw, Mathew Bevis, Chad (Lisa) Petriw, Andrea (Ryan) Bevis, Michelle Petriw, Tyson Salmon, Erin Everley, Tyler Everley and Dana Austman. She was blessed to have one great-grandchild Lydia Petriw. Anne is also survived by her siblings Jennie (Peter) Prystupa, Edward Evanko, Gladys Morris, Florence (Joe) Gregg and members of her extended family. Divine Liturgy will be celebrated at 10:00 am on Monday, July 7, 2014 at St. Nicholas Ukrainian Catholic Church, 737 Bannerman Ave. with Fr. Edward Evanko officiating. The family would like to thank the staff at Holy Family Nursing Home - St. Francis Unit. You treated Mom with such kindness and respect. She was "smiling" because you all made her feel so special and we as a family appreciate all that you did. In lieu of flowers donations in Anne's memory may be made to Holy Family Nursing Home - St. Francis Unit, 165 Aberdeen Ave. Winnipeg, R2W 1T9. I will always remember my Aunty Anne as a loving, caring person whom I could talk to about anything. She was a rock in my life, someone whom I knew would love me unconditionally. She was my friend, mentor, and soul mate in music. I will always remember her with tenderness as a wonderful person with open arms for family and friends. I carry her memory in my mind and heart. - Posted by: Janice Findlay (God daughter) on: Jul 10, 2014

Aunty Anne - We will miss you. You and Uncle Danny are finally reunited. Barry and I will always remember your beautiful voice when you sang Ava Maria at our wedding. We will treasure that memory forever. I also remember the great times that we had when we visited you and Uncle Danny at "the farm" and in St. Andrews. There was always an abundance of food and your smile and hug was always present. Thank you for great childhood memories. - Posted by: Lynda & Barry Twerdun (Cousin) on: Jul 06, 2014

I am so sorry to hear that your mom has passed away. One of my fondest memories was having my first family meal with the Petriw family out in St. Andrews. Your mom made her sweet and sour meat balls and they were the best! I still use her recipe and every time I make them, I think of that wonderful day and how blessed I was to be apart of it. What an honor it was to have Anne sing at my wedding...I still get goose bumps when I hear that song. My thoughts and payers are with you during this difficult time. Anne (as we always called her)was indeed a special lady. I remember my mom Irene and Anne did their weekly grocery shopping together until Mom taught Anne to drive. She was a great blessing to family and friends. My sincerest condolences. - Posted by: Lorraine DeGrave (Family Friend) on: Jul 05, 2014
