JOAQUIM DOS SANTOS BARRETO (JACK) Peacefully Jack passed away at Concordia Hospital, July 2, 2014, at the age of 86. Jack was born in Estoi, Algarve, Portugal. He moved to Canada in 1962 and his family followed in 1963 making Winnipeg their home. Left to cherish his memory, he will be greatly missed by his loving wife Maria of 65 years. Also left to cherish his memory are his two sons Victor (Ludovina), Jack (Audrey), four grandchildren, Antonio, David (Colleen) Karina (Ian) and Kris (Wendy), three great-grandchildren Tuesday, Nicolao, and Esther. Jack will also be missed by his many friends and acquaintances. Joaquim (Jack) leaves behind a legacy that will last for generations having worked on many of Canada's hydro generating projects including the Diefenbaker Dam in Saskatchewan and the Kettle Rapids Dam in Manitoba. In his later years after a successful business venture he retired to enjoy his passion for winemaking, his backyard orchard and coffee with his many friends, and his love for family and family barbecues whenever possible. He gave selflessly to friends and family, always willing to give a helping hand. A Celebration of Jack's Life and Prayers will be held on Wednesday, July 9 at 8:00 p.m. at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main St. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, July 10 at 10:00 a.m. at Immaculate Conception Roman Catholic Church, 181 Austin St. N. with Rev. Fr. Andre Lico officiating. Entombment is at Green Acres Holy Angel Mausoleum, Hwy. #1 East at Navin Rd. Winnipeg. The family would like to thank the staff at Concordia Hospital for the care and compassion they provided to make his final days comfortable.
