WINNIFRED BROUGH (HATHEWAY) Peacefully, on Friday, January 3, 2014 at the Concordia Hospital, Winnie passed away with her family by her side. Born December 10, 1926 in Piercemont, N.B. Mom (Winnie) grew up in Andover, N.B. and after graduating from high school moved to St. John, where she met the love of her life, a tall handsome sailor named Tommy. Soon after, they married and moved to Winnipeg, where they would start a life together that spanned over 57 years. Mom's first joy was her family; she surrounded herself with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was active and enjoyed curling, bowling, cross-country skiing, and spending summers with family and friends at Hillside Beach. She was also a talented knitter who loved to share a variety of woollies for the family. Mom was predeceased by her husband Tom, sister Marie Clark, and her dear friend Gloria Ross. She is survived by her children Donna (Jim), Sharon, Patty (Kenny), Fred, Nancy (Hugh), Jackie (Brent), 11 grandchildren, and 17 great- grandchildren. A celebration of Winnie's life will be held 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, July 15, 2014 at Glen Lawn Funeral Home 455 Lagimodiere Blvd. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Manitoba Heart and Stroke Foundation or a charity of one's choice. Special thanks to Home Care who helped Winnie for many years. Thank you as well to Dr. Fotti and also to the staff of Concordia Hospital. Mom was the core of our family and will hold a special place in our hearts forever. Family and friends may sign a Book of Condolence at www.glenlawn.ca Glen Lawn Funeral Home 204-982-7550

Condolences & Memories (1 entries)

  • It all started when two prairie boys; Tommy Brough and Bud Broughton joined The Navy at Chippawa, in Winnipeg. Eventually, Tommy wed Winnifred Hatheway and Bud wed Florence Gervais. As the kids came along, the Broughs in Transcona and the Broughtons in ST. James managed to keep in touch. Ah! Nostalgia! - Posted by: Dorothy Dunham [nee Broughton] (friend) on: Jul 16, 2014
