Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryOLGA BURROWS CHEYS (nee PROKIPCHUK) September 25, 1939 - July 14, 2014 It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Ollie Burrows Cheys, aged 74, after a long and courageous battle with cancer. She is survived by her husband of nearly 35 years, Edward Cheys, of Petersfield, Manitoba, her two sons in British Columbia, Brian (Irene), their children Brayden and Rylan, and David (Genevieve) and their children Victoria and Jacqueline, her brother Pete (Phyllis), cousins, nieces, nephews, and many friends. She is also survived by Ed's children, Ray (Denise), grandchildren Amanda and Lyndon, Brian (Bev), grandchildren Geoffrey, Jennifer (Phil), Mike (Jodi), Matthew (Victoria) and great-grandchildren Zoe and Conrad, Kathy (Dave), and Dave (Karen), grandchildren Brittany, Haley and Addison. She is predeceased by her parents Steve and Helen Prokipchuk. Ollie was born in Vita, Manitoba, and moved to Winnipeg at an early age. She worked for the City of Winnipeg, Parks and Recreation for many years, retiring in 2000. Ollie and Ed retired to their cabin in Breezy Point where they enjoyed many years there, before moving to their current home in Petersfield, Manitoba. Ollie had many friends and people who cared for her deeply. She had an extraordinary passion for cooking and was never scared to try out new recipes. Ollie and Ed would often share these wonderful meals and refreshments with family and friends. Ollie was a member of the Selkirk Legion #42 and belonged to the Over 60 Club which she was fond of the meat draws. She had a particular love of house and garden plants and always had an array of flowers that adorned the yard every spring and summer. She loved birds, owls in particular and animals of all kinds, and especially her dogs and cats. She had a witty sense of humour and a quick smile. She fought her cancer with courage and dignity, and wrote these words while she was in hospital... "My last day on this earth to be spent with my dear loved ones. I loved you all so very much and will be watching you dear and precious ones. Don't forget me because I will be waiting and loving you all." Special thanks are extended to Dr. Denis Caners of Transcona, Dr. Hugh Taylor her surgeon, and Dr. Pat Harris her oncologist, as well as the oncology staff at Concordia Hospital throughout her treatment, and at the Selkirk General Hospital for their care of Ollie these past weeks. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Ollie's memory to the Canadian Cancer Society. Funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 19, 2014 at Glen Lawn Funeral Home, 455 Lagimodiere Blvd. Family and friends may sign a Book of Condolence at www.glenlawn.ca Glen Lawn Funeral Home 204-982-7550

Ollie taught me a lot as I was new to the workforce. She also taught me a lot about dealing with personal hardships. I will never forget her kindness and humor. I still think of her when I think of my days working at Watt Street. She really was a special lady. - Posted by: Val Antonation (former coworker) on: Jul 19, 2014
