Condolences & Memories (8 entries)

  • Just heard of Rev. Glen Thompson's passing, my condolences to Jesmond & family. I first met Glen, Jesmond & their children in Berens River, MB where he was our United Church minister. My parents, maternal & paternal grandparents who are all now in the Spirit World, were very close friends & kept in touch. As a child, I would attend church with my parents. As a teen, I remember staying with the Thompsons in Windsor Park. I had the opportunity to visit with them in Anola, MB & in Gimili. I will always remember their kindness. May the Great Spirit give his family the strength & wellness they may need @ this difficult time. Until we meet again! - Posted by: Marion Boulanger (friend) on: Sep 03, 2014

  • Windsor Park United Church was an important part of my childhood and Reverand Thompson was a big part of that community. I have fond memories of all the Thompsons and I am glad that a long retirement for Mr. and Mrs. Thompson was enjoyed by the whole family. My best wishes and condolences are extended to all of the family. - Posted by: Dave Pratt (Former neighbour, family friend.) on: Aug 28, 2014

  • I felt like I knew Rev. and Mrs. Thompson through the many stories that were shared by Sheila, who I have known for over 20 years. I know he will be missed by everyone. His legacy lives on with his family, who have many loving memories! My sincere condolences to all. Penny - Posted by: Penny Triggs (Friend of Sheila) on: Aug 08, 2014

  • Uncle Glen will be deeply missed by the whole extended Thompson Clan. We always enjoyed Glen and Jesmond's company so much for their wit, wisdom and wonderful stories. Our deepest sympathy to the family. - Posted by: Gene and Jennifer Thompson (Nephew/neice) on: Jul 25, 2014

  • We were 'Settled' in Snow Lake in 1981 and The Thompsons were our closest neighbours...only three hours away! Glen and Jesmond opened their homes and hearts to us. Glen nurtured and advised Eric in his ministry and together, they 'grounded us' with a friendship that sustained us through some unusual northern-ministry experiences. We count Glen and Jesmond as our mentors and friends. Glen's wisdom and sense of humour were invaluable to us in those years of ministry. He was a UCC minister with a deep passion for justice. We give thanks...Cheryl and Eric - Posted by: Cheryl Kinney Matheson and Eric Matheson (colleagues and friends) on: Jul 23, 2014

  • Our hearts go out to Jesmond and family. Glen and Jesmond were one of the first to welcome a very young wife and mother, fresh from Montreal, to the other side of the world in Thompson. It seems I can't mention Glen without mentioning Jesmond at the same time - they were my anchors and my mentors. And that wonderful sense of humour. We will miss you Glen - thank you so much for your wonderful wit, wisdom and inspiration. - Posted by: Marion McGill Hodge (friends) on: Jul 19, 2014

  • My first memory of Rev Thompson was as a little girl in Sunday School at Windsor Park United.Church . My dad was very excited that we had a brand new church in our coMmunity with a kind and friendly minister. Oh my but Rev Thompson was so strong and so tall and handsome and earnest that I knew he was honestly concerned about all of us and not just the grown ups. I was very sad to hear of his passing and extend my heartfelt condolences to his family. I went to school with his "kids" and would like them to know I always thought they were so lucky to have such a nice dad and mum. My young faith journey was nurtured by Rev Thompson and his kindness. May God bless you all with his comfort during this very sad time. - Posted by: Roxanne (Byron) Anderson (Windsor Park United Church) on: Jul 19, 2014

  • We were very sad to hear of Uncle Glen's passing. For the last several years he has been the rock and knowledge keeper of the Thompson clan. He was always at the centre of family reunions and we loved hearing him tell family stories. We are really going to miss his laughter that you could hear from anywhere in a crowded room! Although he touched many lives through the church and his many interests, his family was his most important legacy. Our thoughts and prayers are with you all.
