Condolences & Memories (8 entries)

  • In December 1987 Walter contacted the Federal Office where I was responsible for Quality Assurance and asked for exchanges of experience as he advised the Whiteshell Nuclear Research Establishment re Quality Assurance Matters. In April 1988 we met for the first time and it was the beginning of a long friendship. Not only did we write many Quality Assurance papers together but most of all I enjoyed his advice and humor and especially his memories about the wartime, his rescue by Karl Krüger and first years in Canada as a teacher at Tech-Voc High School in Winnipeg. We always had good times together either in Germany or on his beloved Island in the Lake of the Woods where I twice had the chance of catching a northern pike. The last time we spoke via Skpe was in July just a few days before he left us. I have lost a unique friend and mentor. My wife Jill and myself will miss him very much, especially his humor. - Posted by: Ingo Beckmerhagen (Friend) on: Aug 17, 2014

  • My sincerest condolences Walter's wife and family. I knew Walter through his work with Western Diversification as a consultant/mentor who had a special and profound knowledge about Total Quality Management in the workplace. Walter was always very composed and patient man who gained respect from whomever he associated with. As fellow church members at Epiphany Lutheran Church, Walter and Vera were always ready to step forward to meet other congregational members with a welcoming smile and positive conversation. Walking to church regardless of weather conditions was part of their Sunday routine. Walter will be sorely missed but his quiet legacy will not soon be forgotten. Rest in peace, my friend. - Posted by: ronald smith (friend) on: Jul 28, 2014
