JAMES DOUGLAS (DOUG) BRADLEY
Date of Passing: Jul 25, 2014
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryJAMES DOUGLAS (DOUG) BRADLEY Peacefully at Victoria Hospital, with his family at his side, James Douglas (Doug) Bradley passed away at the age of 88 on July 25, 2014. Left to cherish his memory is loving wife of 64 years, Kathleen "Kay", son Ian (Gisele) Bradley, daughter Sandra (Frank) Gunson, granddaughters Kimberly, Janique (Sean), Megan, Nathalie (Kurt), and great-granddaughters Kiera and Finley. He was predeceased by his father George, mother Wilhelmina, brother Glen, and aunt Isabel. Doug was born and raised in St. James and after marriage to Kathleen (Kay) they moved to St. Vital where they raised their family. They had met while attending Pala Camp in Minaki, ON. While returning home from Pala they were involved in one of Manitoba's worst train accidents, the Dugald Train Wreck of 1947. Thankfully neither Doug or Kay or Doug's brother Glen who was riding in the other train were injured. Doug spent 40 years working at United Grain Growers in numerous positions including 10 years traveling his sales route in Manitoba and Saskatchewan. He retired from UGG as Manager of Farm Supplies. Doug and Kay made lifelong friends while vacationing at Fair Hills Resort in Detroit Lakes, MN where they went on the last week of August for 25 years. The first year they were there, Doug decided to get in an early round of golf just as the sun was coming up, and found three others doing the same. This tradition continued every year after that. Doug was an avid golfer and was lucky to have three holes in one. He was a long time member of the Canoe Club and then the Wildwood Club where he made many friends while golfing, curling and playing badminton. Doug was a big supporter of all the local teams and was very happy when the Winnipeg Jets returned. While not able to attend games in the past couple of years he faithfully watched them on TV. For many years they attended the Winnipeg Goldeyes Saturday night games sitting in section F and when not able to watch them on TV would listen to them on the radio. Doug and Kay went on many amazing holidays including their first trip - an all inclusive vacation to Hawaii which was through Doug's job at UGG. They also went golfing in Thailand, saw much of the USA, and visited many countries including Mexico, Portugal, Holland, England, Scotland and Ireland. They traveled coast to coast in Canada with one of their favourite trips being a bus trip to the Maritimes. The family would like to extend their appreciation to all the thoughtful and supportive staff at the Victoria Hospital, 5th Floor for their care and compassion. A drop in celebration of Doug's life will be held August 6 from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at Dakota House, 1145 Dakota St. Flowers gratefully declined, donations may be made to the charity of your choice. Our lifelong memories are as neighbours and friends with Doug and his family beginning back in 1970 on Regal Avenue. Fishing and camping together on Dauphin River was always a treat. Need we mention our proximity to the Windsor Park Golf Course and Ian training our dog to fetch golf balls from the ponds. We will miss Doug and our condolences go out to Kay, and Ian and Sandra and their families. - Posted by: Jeannette and Bob Willis (Neighbours/Friends) on: Aug 01, 2014
