Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryRIGHT REVEREND PROTOPRESBYTER WOLODYMYR SLUZAR Right Reverend Protopresbyter Wolodymyr Sluzar fell asleep in the Lord on July 30, 2014 in Richmond Hill, Ontario, where he moved recently to be near his family. He was predeceased by his beloved wife Dobrodijka Halyna (Machula), his parents Wasyl and Anna (Grendzola), siblings Stefan, Marta, Olha, Olena, Tekla, Andrij and Tekla. He is survived by his sister Warwara in Ukraine, son George (Joanne), daughter Vera (Brett MacIntyre) and grandchildren Tara, Maia, Andrew and Mark, as well as many nieces and nephews in Ukraine and Canada. Wolodymyr was born in the village of Dubrawka, Western Ukraine on April 8, 1919. He attended school in Lviv and completed teacher's college. He fled his native Ukraine during the war and ended up in a refugee camp in Bavaria where he met and married his partner in life and pastoral work, Halyna. After the war, Wolodymyr and Halyna settled in Winnipeg where Wolodymyr studied theology at St. Andrew's College. He was ordained into the priesthood in 1953 and served parishes in Saskatoon, Canora, Winnipeg, Vita and surrounding district and Winnipeg district parishes. He also held the position of Secretary to the Consistory. He was Priest Emeritus since 1998 at the Ukrainian Orthodox Metropolitan Cathedral of the Holy Trinity. Rev. Fr. Wolodymyr was the recipient of all the priestly awards and recognitions, including the highest - Protopresbyter. Last year he was honoured for 60 years of service in the Holy Priesthood. His over 50 years of work within the Ukrainian Self-Reliance League in various capacities was also acknowledged with an award this past year. Our father was a humble and gentle pastor who was dedicated to his Christian faith and service to the community. He also was a devoted husband, father and grandfather who cared deeply for the well-being of his family. He will be truly missed. Panakhyda-Prayers will be held on Wednesday, August 6 at 7:00 p.m. at Ukrainian Orthodox Metropolitan Cathedral of the Holy Trinity, 1175 Main St. Funeral Liturgy will be celebrated on Thursday, August 7 at 10:00 a.m. also at the Cathedral. Interment at Glen Eden Memorial Gardens.
