MARGARET HELEN LAZARESCU (nee CAULDERWOOD) October 23, 1932 - August 15, 2014 Margaret Helen Lazarescu, the last surviving member of Eric and Mavor Caulderwood passed away peacefully at home surrounded by the love and support of her family. She had been diagnosed with terminal cancer and with bravery and dignity accepted the journey to her final destination. Helen was predeceased by her baby brother Bobby, her sister and best friend Grace Smith, and her brother Jim Caulderwood. Helen is survived by her family who has always been central to her life. Her husband of sixty years, George Lazarescu of Winnipeg, MB, daughter Linda Lazarescu-King (Roland) of Asquith, SK, son Daryl Lazarescu of Winnipeg, MB, son Doug Lazarescu of Richmond, BC, daughter Freya (nee Brenda) Hansen (Gary Cressall) of Winnipeg, MB. Grandchildren Shane Lazarescu (Karleen McKeigan) of Saskatoon, SK, Lora Pesant (Marc) of Calgary, AB, Sarah Hansen (Austin MacMasters) of Winnipeg, MB and Ian Hansen of Winnipeg, MB. Helen graduated from Balfour Tech in Regina in the 1949. Helen worked for the Saskatchewan Department of Health until she married George and moved to the family farm near Avonlea, SK. After George and Helen returned to Regina and the kids were old enough, Helen returned to work with various departments in the Government of Saskatchewan, including Family Services. Helen retired from the Department of Justice in 1986 when George was transferred Winnipeg. They both came to love and enjoy the people and beauty of the city and surrounding lakes and made many friends. Helen was an active member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Jubilee Chapter from 1986 until the time of her death. Helen served as Worthy Matron (95/96) and was always involved in special events, luncheons, teas and bazaars. She enjoyed playing bridge both at home and at local community centres. As well as raising four children, Helen enjoyed going to the lake for fishing and waterskiing, with many trips to the mountains for downhill skiing. Helen and George liked to travel, taking well deserved holidays to Mexico, Europe, most of Canada and the American states including Hawaii, Texas, Nevada and Alaska. Last year they had a much enjoyed trip to Churchill, MB to see the polar bears. Although there was much travel Helen also enjoyed her own backyard. Helen was very creative and she created many imaginative crafts with sewing, canvas craft, and knitting. In the past few years she often donated her creations to Children's Hospital and CancerCare Manitoba. Helen enjoyed reading, music, golfing and especially loved to garden. Helen's great love and appreciation for animals and nature has been passed to her children. The family would like to thank the Palliative Care Program and home care, particularly Karen Bayley. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to any animal shelter or nature conservation charity. A Celebration of Helen's life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, August 21, 2014 at Glen Lawn Funeral Home, 455 Lagimodiere Blvd. To my mom: You have given me so much of you. Condolences & Memories (8 entries)

  • Helen will be fondly remembered by me, particularly for her generosity when inviting me to share supper time meals with the Lazarescu family, and for the stimulating conversations with her that often ensued following dinner. My thoughts are with the Lazarescu family at this time. - Posted by: Thomas Young ((family)) on: Sep 29, 2014

  • Helen and I didn't really become friends until after Freya and I separated. She invited me over for dinners at Christmas time and a few other times family gathered around the table. Being in a strange city and not knowing many people here, it was something I felt very thankful for. She sold me her old Volkswagen Rabbit cheap, and trusted me to make payments on it. I helped her and George dig up and turn the dirt for their first garden, build a fence, and chip the ice that kept freezing and making it slippery just outside the main door, shortly after they moved to Winnipeg. She was loved and will be dearly missed. She was a believer and, I'm sure, did everything to prepare her soul for God's grace. A life well lived in service to all she cared for. It'll take her family and close friends time to learn how to live without having her around. I'm happy she made herself who God wanted her to be. She was a great example of the reward waiting for all who serve Him well. May He continue to bless you and your family! - Posted by: Bryan Johnston and family (Lora's dad and family friend) on: Aug 24, 2014
