WILLIAM HAROLD (BILL) BISSETT
Born: Jun 13, 1935
Date of Passing: Sep 09, 2014
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryWILLIAM HAROLD (BILL) BISSETT June 13, 1935 - September 9, 2014 With his family by his side, and with dignity and grace, Bill left this world on September 9, 2014. He will be most deeply missed by his wife Doreen, daughters Dawn and Lisa, grandsons Hunter and Malcolm, brother Robert, and extended family members. Bill was predeceased by his sister Lois. Born in Crystal City, Manitoba, to Effie and Wilf, Bill grew up in Snowflake, Manitoba and later in St. Vital, Winnipeg. At age 17, he moved to Brochet, Manitoba, to work for the Hudson's Bay Company and had many wonderful, life-influencing experiences in northern Manitoba. In 1961 he married Doreen and they moved to Nipigon, Ontario, where he worked with his lifelong friend Chuck McOuat (Lila). Eventually Bill and Doreen returned to Winnipeg and settled in Transcona to raise their family. In addition to working for various companies, including JMR Sales and Merchant's Consolidated, he was instrumental in assisting Doreen to operate and expand her dance school. Bill had a love of nature which he shared with his family, especially during the ten years they had a cottage at St. Malo. Besides enjoying hunting, fishing, reading and golfing, he was a creative man who found great satisfaction in building and repairing things. He always had a to-do list for projects at home, the dance studio, and later at Crystal City where he and Doreen spent their summers. Bill was a long-time member of AA and leaves a legacy of the lives he touched through that organization. He was a straight shooter who had a way of cutting to the heart of a matter; one never had to wonder what was on his mind. For their exceptional care and compassion, the family extends sincere gratitude to the medical team at Health Sciences Centre, especially Dr. Srinathan, the GH5 staff and the Palliative Care team. If desired, the family welcomes donations to a charity of your choice. Funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, September 16, 2014, at Glen Lawn Funeral Home, 455 Lagimodiere Blvd. In accordance with Bill's wishes, cremation has taken place. There will be no interment. Family and friends wishing may sign a book of condolence at www.glenlawn.ca. Glen Lawn Funeral Home 204-982-7550

Through memorable school years in St. Vital and during transition from teen to adult, he was a true friend who earned complete trust by his words and actions. I was honored when he asked me to be part of his joyous wedding to Doreen and, while living most of our lives a thousand miles apart, we've kept in touch. My thoughts are with Doreen and the girls. Theirs was a good man. - Posted by: Dave Stempin (Long time friend and admirer) on: Sep 26, 2014

Dear Doreen, Lisa, and Dawn, Our thoughts and prayers are with you in this difficult time. We do remember those days when Bill would come to the dance studio to fix whatever needed to be fixed, and his sense of humour, second to none. The best and most beautiful things in the world cannot be seen or even touched. They must be felt with the heart. Doreen and family, I was saddened to hear of Bill's passing. My thoughts and prayers are with you guys during this time. Have to truly admit, after I got to know him (it took sometime), I found him to be a man of integrity and compassion towards his fellow man. I belive we lost a good man, but heaven has gained an Angel from the fellowship here on Earth. - Posted by: jack c (freind) on: Sep 16, 2014

Doreen, So very sorry to hear that Bill passed away. I always enjoyed our short visits at the grocery store or bank. Will miss that. Wish that we could have grown another flax field on the land behind your trailer- he always said he loved the view when the flax was in bloom. - Posted by: Marian Ransome (Friend) on: Sep 14, 2014
