DR. EDWARD NATHANIEL In loving memory of Dr. Edward Nathaniel, who passed away peacefully on Friday, September 19, 2014. He leaves behind his wife Doris, sons Ernie (Lynnette) and Virgil, and granddaughters Tamara and Kiara. He was predeceased by daughter Maryanne. Ed was born on April 21, 1928 in Guntar, India. After medical school, he completed his Masters and Ph.D. at U.C.L.A. in California 1963. In 1964 he taught and setup the electron microscope lab at the Medical College of Georgia, at Augusta. In 1966 he taught Anatomy at McGill University, Montreal. He then taught Anatomy at the University of Manitoba Medical School from 1968, and after teaching approximately 2500 medical students and a dozen graduate students, he retired in 1993. Although his work included neuroscience research, his greatest joy came from his profession of teaching and involvement with his students. In his younger days, he played tennis, field hockey, and cricket. He enjoyed listening to and singing gospel music. He had interests in photography, camera equipment, and in building electronic kits. He had a joyful, peaceful, and friendly disposition. In later years he enjoyed old movies and watching tennis, and still had an adventuresome spirit. A quiet and thoughtful man, he had a calmness and peace about him, attesting to his strong Christian faith. He was willing to help others wherever he could, and he greatly enjoyed and loved his family. A memorial service, officiated by Rev. Dr. Aldwin Ragoonath, will be held at Church of the Rock, 1397 Buffalo Place, Saturday, September 27 at 2:00 p.m. Family and friends may sign a Book of Condolence at www.glenlawn.ca Glen Lawn Funeral Home 204-982-7550

  • Dr. Nathaniel was a kind & generous man whom I met in my mid teens. He always showed Virgil & Ernie's friends welcome to their home. • I am greatly saddened to hear of Ed's recent death. My thoughts and prayers are with Doris and the Nathaniel family. I have known Ed and been a teaching colleague of his for 30 years. He has always been a very knowledgeable Anatomist and dedicated teacher. He was a senior and highly respected faculty member in our Department. Over the years many students have benefited greatly from his classroom and laboratory instruction and our Department was strengthened by his presence. He will be fondly remembered and sadly missed. - Posted by: Ed Bruni (Friend and colleague) on: Sep 25, 2014
