GERARD GAGNON March 29, 1928 October 9, 2014 It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Guillaume Jean Gerard (Gerry) Gagnon. Gerry was working hard to recover from his surgery of September 8 and was making good progress. Unfortunately his heart was not able to recover as well and on the evening of Thursday, October 9, Gerry left us. Gerry leaves to mourn his wife of 56 years Aurelie "Lee", his daughters Eva (Bill) Critchley and Diane (Kevin) McKenty, his grandchildren Bryan (Vickie) Critchley, Karen (Jared) Burgess, Deirdre McKenty and Alastair McKenty; great-grandchildren Xavier, Luka and Annika Burgess, Sarah and Evan Critchley. He is also survived by his sisters Yvonne Rumple, Louise Bourgeois and Florence Saltel as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Gerry was predeceased by his mother and father, his sisters Cecile Pilon and Mary-Jane Normand and his brother Albert Gagnon. Gerry had a number of different jobs in his life. He was a dedicated employee, concluding his working career with Molson Brewery where he started out driving a truck and making deliveries. Before his retirement in 1989, he worked his way up to lead hand in the bottle shop. Working at Molson's was not just a job Gerry made lasting friendships with his co-workers, enjoying many company functions and family Christmas parties. Outside of his work, Gerry was very involved in life at Grey St. United Church, serving on the board of trustees for many years. He devoted countless hours to the International Order of Foresters, volunteering to fund raise for numerous charities, helping out with the annual bike rodeo to keep children safe on their bikes on Winnipeg streets. His favourite aspect of his IOF volunteer work was his involvement with the Children's Hospital Foundation. Gerry enjoyed bowling, woodworking, camping and fishing. Most of all though, Gerry loved to travel. He especially wanted to be behind the wheel of the car. As far as he was concerned, the best way to travel was to drive and he could drive for hours without ever tiring of the trip. Regardless of what Gerry was doing working, volunteering or travelling- the most important thing for Gerry was his family. He included family in the company functions, his family was always invited to the IOF gatherings and, of course, the camping/fishing/driving vacations were all about spending time with family. Even though there is one less smile at our table now, Gerry's love, kindness and his bright cheerful smile will live on in our hearts. The family would like to express sincere thanks to Dr. Harding and his staff, especially his PA Stephanie, and to the staff of GA3, SICU and MICU at Health Sciences Centre. A service of remembrance will take place on Friday, October 17, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. at Grey St. United Church, 651 Sandhurst Ave. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, to Grey St. United Church or to the charity of your choice. • Gerry was such a fun loving good natured person to be around. He was my mom's cousin. I always called him "Mon Onc" thinking he was my uncle, until he corrected me and said we were cousins. I jokingly told him he was too old to be my cousin. I can still hear his joyous laughter. I will always love and remember him. Much sympathy to Lee, Eva, and Diane and families. • I have known Gerry Gagnon for many years since I was a young man through my father micheal solodiuk who at one time was a member of the IOF along with Gerry Gagnon and remember him being a kind fun-loving person who enjoyed life and those around him. To show its a small world i had known Gerry Gagnon before i met his niece Jacquie Saltel daughter of Florence Saltel and was the first person i met when i went to meet Jacquie his niece for the first time and the first thing i said what are you doing here in a joking manner because of not expecting to meet someone i had known since i was a little boy. In closing i wish to say Uncle Gerry rest in peace and say hi to my mom for me up there. - Posted by: James Solodiuk (Family Friend) on: Oct 14, 2014
