Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemorySOPHIE FRANCES FLISS (nee WALCZAK) February 10, 1929 - October 12, 2014 On Sunday, October 12, 2014 Sophie passed away in the comfort of her home at the age of 85 years with her family by her side. Sophie was predeceased by her husband, Joe; her parents; her brothers Michael (Chucky), Joseph, Stanley and Anthony (Tony), and two sisters Anne and Frances. Sophie is survived by her only sister, Bertha, numerous nieces and nephews, and a loving circle of family and friends. Sophie was born in Winnipeg. She was married to Joe the love of her life for over 60 years. Her life was filled with love, laughter and family. Sophie enjoyed her work as a secretary all her career. She loved a challenge and was forever learning and changing with the times, until her retirement at age 70. She was employed by Burns, Joy Manufacturing, and the Health and Community Services - Winnipeg Region upon her retirement. She was an active member of the St. Nicholas UCWLC for over 25 years. Golf was one of her passions. She enjoyed many games and made many friends on the golf course. She not only played the game but took great pleasure in helping and teaching the game to family both young and old. Golf was a love she shared with her husband, and together they were members of St. Boniface and Pine Ridge Golf Clubs for over 40 years. They also enjoyed the game while vacationing away from home. A very proud moment for Sophie was when she scored a "hole- in- one" on the 7th hole at Pine Ridge. Sophie had many interests. She loved to cook and bake. Two family favorites were her perogies and Christmas cookies. Everyone has tasted her Easter Bread (Paska), made with love- a true thing of beauty. Sophie was known to most as "Auntie Sophie". She was a warm, loving soul, and she always spoke lovingly of her many friends and relatives. Family was very important. She loved to be surrounded by children and laughter. Sophie will be remembered by her family as a wonderful loving woman, who was happiest when she was surrounded by family. She would always extend the warmest of hugs when she embraced you and she would often speak of, in her words, "My Family" with such pride. She made everyone feel so special, and so loved. Her sweet disposition; easy laughter; and love of music, her patience and helping giving spirit will be fondly remembered. Her life touched so many; her grace will never be forgotten. Rest now with God, reunited with your Joey, and those gone before you and never forget we love you always. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory of Sophie to St. Nicholas Ukrainian Catholic Church or to a charity of your choice. Prayers will be said on Wednesday, October 15 at 7:00 p.m. at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main Street. I was deeply heart felt that Sophie was asked to be reunited with Joe. Even though I never knew him, she had very fond memories and stories about him. She taught me a lot about golf and I will cherish that forever. It is time my friend to walk the golf course with Joe and get many more holes in one. - Posted by: Debra Urbanik (Friend) on: Oct 15, 2014
