LYALL PALMER WOOD Peacefully on Tuesday, October 14, 2014, at the Riverview Health Centre, Dad lost his courageous battle with cancer at the age of 85 years. Remaining to forever cherish Dad's memory are his children, Pat (Jim), Ken (Yvonne), Bob (Jo-Anne) and Wendy (Allen); forever known as Bumpa to his grandchildren and their spouses, Kim, Roland, Erin, Stacey, Chris, Alice, Elise, Kevin, Tara, Michael, Jamie; 17 great-grands; as well as brother Joe (Lucille); sister Margaret (Bob), and sister-in-law Jayne. He was predeceased by the love of his life for 60 years, "Bet"; his parents, Carl and Hazel Wood; granddaughter Bonnie; brother Sheldon, and sister Merle. Dad (Woody) was born in Rossburn, MB, on July 7, 1929, moving to Elm Creek at the age of seven. After graduation he attended school in Winnipeg where he met his future bride Betty. Dad's main career choice was with Singer Sewing Machine Co. as a mechanic and later promoted to Western Canadian Service Manager in Surrey, BC. He was an active member of Sturgeon Creek Masonic Lodge #145 and O.E.S., Electa #2. Bumpa loved family gatherings, camping with his motorhome, telling stories of his life, watching sports, showing us how to be the Master Scrabble player of the family, making sure he had a loonie for his grands and doing crossword puzzles. A Celebration of Life will take place on Saturday, October 18, 2014 at 4:00 p.m. in Wojcik's Funeral Chapel, 1020 Main Street at Manitoba Avenue, Winnipeg. The family would like to thank the staff at Riverview and W.R.H.A., Palliative Care Unit for their tender care. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to CancerCare Manitoba, 675 McDermot Ave., Winnipeg, MB R3E 0V9. Uncle Lyall was awesome. I remember my lil red singer sewing machine. He adored his grandchildren. The fondest memories was going out to visit. I remember having all the grandkids, nieces and nephews sleeping in the motor home or how him and Aunt Betty could see how many kids fit into that huge king size bed. He had a great sense of humor, that must be a Wood thing. He will be truly missed. - Posted by: Donna Wood (Niece) on: Oct 21, 2014

Lyall was a gentleman in all that it means. Quiet, dignified, kind and committed to his involvements. I knew him as my Eastern Star Brother and was privileged to do so. Pat and family, he'll always be with you. My most sincere condolences to you all. - Posted by: Carol Girling (OES Sister) on: Oct 17, 2014

"Bumpa" will be truly missed. Even if you were not a member of the immediate family, he always made you feel like you were one of his kids. He was always interested in what you were doing, what your kids were up to and always had a hug for you before you left. We know he will always be that special angel on your shoulder... with you no matter where you are. Love you always Bumpa. - Posted by: Desilets Family (Friend ) on: Oct 16, 2014

Pat, my thoughts and prayers are with you and your entire family. I was given the privilege of caring for your mother and along with that came you and dad. You have all been an extended family and one of the great pleasures of my job. I was blessed to be included in dad's birthday party where I was able to sit with him and share memories we had made. I know I now have another angel watching over me. God Bless Susan - Posted by: Susan Milimac (Friend) on: Oct 16, 2014
