DORA LYONS September 7, 1927 - Minto, New Brunswick October 21, 2014 - Winnipeg, Manitoba In loving memory of our beautiful wife and mother Dora, who peacefully passed away on Tuesday at Victoria General Hospital at the age of 87 years. With profound sadness, she will be lovingly remembered by her husband Chet of 66 years, her children, Bonnie (Denis) grandchildren David and Debbie, Tricia (Ron) and grandson Steven, Laurie (Gilles) and grandchildren Scott and Cam. She was born and raised in New Brunswick and was tremendously proud of her Belgium heritage. She was the third oldest of eleven children and was affectionately called "little mama" by her younger siblings. Mom's love of dancing and music came from her father Arthur, who was a professional accordion player. Mom was proud to say he played the accordion for King Albert 1 of Belgium. Her talent for dancing was rewarded at many dancing competitions. The greatest "love story" was mom and dad meeting where our father played the accordion. Mom and dad married three weeks later. On September 20, 2014, mom and dad celebrated their 66th wedding anniversary. Mom's devotion to dad and his career in the Air Force enabled us to live across Canada where we eventually settled in Winnipeg. Mom's greatest joy was her family where she said many times "being a wife and mother is everything". She was the ultimate cook and lovingly prepared so many wonderful meals. Mom was active in politics and Legion #9. She adored her grandchildren and took pride in their accomplishments. Mom was full of wisdom and gentle guidance. "She was lovely, she was cherished; she was ours". A special thank you to Dr. Munsammy and the devoted nurses and staff at the Victoria Hospital, 5th floor. A celebration of Dora's life will be held on Monday, November 10, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. At Glen Lawn Funeral Home, 455 Lagimodiere Blvd., Winnipeg, Manitoba. Interment will follow at Glen Lawn Memorial Gardens. Family and friends wishing may sign a book of condolence at www.glenlawn.ca Glen Lawn Funeral Home 982-7550

Our most sincere condolences to Chet, Bonnie, Tricia, Laurie and your families. We all know that Dora was a beautiful person inside and out. She was thoughtful, caring, selfless, and was such a great friend to my mother, Paula Henry. Dora, Chet and Paula had many interesting and fun times, both socially and in the political arena. Our friendship was even closer because of my being one of Tricia's and Laurie's high school teachers. Dora could not have had two more delightful daughters, one quiet and thoughtful and the other more outgoing, yet caring, too. Both exhibited Dora's kind qualities and joy of living and giving. We were all blessed to have had Dora in our lives. - Posted by: Paula Henry, Chyrle Kyritz (Friends) on: Nov 02, 2014

Laurie and family...... Losing a mother is never easy. They are a part of you forever and through their love, their children learn to love. Mrs. Lyons loved her daughters. I remember spending time with Laurie and her dear mother on several Mother's Days. My favorite was the Mother's Day tea event at Pineridge Hollow. I know that your dear mother is with you and that she is watching over your family and your dear dad. My thoughts and prayers are with you. You are our "other sister" and we will be there for you during this difficult time. - Posted by: Cathy Penner (Family Friend) on: Nov 01, 2014

My childhood memories of Mrs. Lyons was that she was such a warm and happy person who always went out of her way to make you feel welcomed and loved. She always was dressed so impeccably – I admired as to how put together she was. Mrs. Lyons was a working Mom (which wasn’t that common in those days) and it couldn’t have been easy to raise three daughters and work as well. I also admired her spunk as she was fiercely protective of her loved ones and never was afraid to stand-up for them or an issue she felt strongly about. Her kindness, strong sense of humor and her ability to make you feel special and loved will always be remembered. I know how much she loved her family and friends and her absence is felt by all. I know one day all of her loved ones will be all gathered around her feeling her love again – especially Mr. Lyons as they shared a life time and beyond of love. Always remembered and never forgotten. My heartfelt sympathy goes to her loving family. I know how much she is missed. - Posted by: Lisa Kowalski (Family friend) on: Oct 30, 2014

I unfortunately did not get a chance to meet Dora but I have the opportunity to work with Laurie on a daily basis. Laurie is a wonderful person who deals with people with Integrity and Compassion. There is a very obvious resemblance between Laurie and the picture of Dora and I can tell Laurie's qualities are undoubtedly due to the mentorship of her mother. In my Dora's picture depicts a person of humor and a love of life, which her daughter shares. Condolences to Laurie and her family. - Posted by: Chris Donnelly (Co-Worker of Laurie's) on: Oct 27, 2014
