MICHAEL J. TOWNSLEY P.ENG August 2, 1941 - October 29, 2014 With shock and sadness we announce the passing of Michael J. Townsley beloved husband and father. Michael (Mike) is survived by his wife Rita and two sons, Darren (Marni-Jo) and Mark, and grandson Benjamin. Mike is also survived by his extended family in England, mother, Margaret and mother-in-law Molly, brothers David (Jenny) and Phillip, brothers and sisters-in-law Rae, Carole and Arthur. Mike was born on August 2, 1941 in Rotherham, England and grew up there, enjoying an early life of happiness and sports. He later developed a talent and love for academics, math and the sciences, which progressed into a passion for mechanical engineering. Mike received several national awards for engineering during his education. Mike and Rita immigrated to Canada in 1970 where Mike accepted a position with Manitoba Hydro. He worked there for over 20 years becoming a senior manager of the Mechanical and Electrical departments. After retirement Mike took a position with Manitoba Hydro International and The World Bank as a project manager and with Rita by his side was stationed in Pakistan during 9-11. He often said this was the last great adventure of his career. He loved his work where a passion and diligence were always so strongly present and he was never happier as when he was engineering. Mike always took great interest in his sons and their careers and always loved to share a drink to discuss their day, politics, science and engineering. He always said 4:00 p.m. was his favourite time of day. Mike and Rita shared an adventurous spirit and love of travel. They saw the world, and up to his last days had just returned from a cruise around the Hawaiian Islands. Mark and Darren wish to extend their heartfelt thanks to friends and neighbours who provided comfort and caring to their mother Rita and to themselves during this sad time of mourning. A private cremation has taken place and a celebration of life will follow at a later date. For those who wish, in lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Winnipeg Humane Society, Winnipeg Pet Rescue Shelter or D'Arcy's A.R.C.
