Condolences & Memories (8 entries)

  • I often listen to a classical music radio station Don always had on for his transporting clients. When you opened Don's van door to assist clients, the van immediately felt comfort, and welcomed. I am sure for the ride home all Don's clients forgot why they where being assisted in transportation. A Man, who would drive in from Portage to help out in need. I was always grateful to him. • I learned of Don's passing this evening and was deeply saddened. He was a wonderful friend, community pillar, inspirational leader and personal mentor. I was forever in awe of his knowledge and his views on life and spirituality. As a fellow pilot we shared a special bond in addition to that of being brothers at the Lodge. Though I am many miles away now, I will carry his memory with me and think fondly of his wisdom and strength of character as a blueprint for my own life in the years to come. I'll miss you, brother, and I'll be happy to meet again. - Posted by: Jordan Blair (Friend/Masonic Brother ) on: Jan 06, 2015

  • I had the honour to work directly with Don for several months in 2014. At birth we boarded the train and met our parents, and we believe they will always travel on our side. However, at some station our parents will step down from the train, leaving us on this journey alone. As time goes by, other people will board the train; and they will be significant i.e. our siblings, friends, children, and even the love of your life. Many will step down and leave a permanent vacuum. Others will go so unnoticed that we don't realize they vacated their seats. This train ride will be full of joy, sorrow, fantasy, expectations, hellos, goodbyes, and farewells. Success consists of having a good relationship with all passengers requiring that we give the best of ourselves. The mystery to everyone is: We do not know at which station we ourselves will step down. So, we must live in the best way, love, forgive and offer the best of who we are. It is important to do this because when the time comes for us to step down and leave our seat empty we should leave behind beautiful memories for those who will continue to travel on the train of life. I wish you a joyful journey on the train of life. Reap success and give lots of love. More importantly, thank God for the journey. Lastly, I thank you for being one of the passengers on my train. - Posted by: David English (Masonic Brother, co-worker) on: Jan 06, 2015

  • Many happy hours spent in Don's company during my years in the Masons and as a brother in Assiniboine Lodge #7 in Portage la Prairie. Don exemplified the true meaning of Masonry in his giving unto others. Don will be missed. - Posted by: John Aune (Friend and brother Mason) on: Jan 06, 2015

  • Your passing has hit me hard. You are one of the most significant, inspirational men that I have met! You will be truly missed my Brother... so mote it be! - Posted by: Jeff Olafson (Masonic Brother) on: Jan 05, 2015

  • Don has crossed my path many different times, spread over 25 years, and a few Manitoban cities and towns. He was a very truthful, honest and upright man, an example to his masonic brothers. Don was widely respected not only for this character, his many accomplishments, his tremendous knowledge of our craft, but also because he led by example. Never too busy to help anyone, he brought very much positive energy to anything he touched. He was very dedicated to so many things, impossible to list. A man that lived intensely and whose unexpected passing has impacted us all deeply. Our prayers are with his family and we wish them much strength in this and the coming period. Until we meet again. - Posted by: Hans Peper (Masonic Brother) on: Jan 05, 2015

  • We're deeply saddened to learn of Don's passing. Extending our deepest sympathy to the Beattie family. Please know that our thoughts are with you at this sad time. A true champion of the cancer cause and valued member of the Mason's you've been an important partner in the success of the Canadian Cancer Society's Volunteer Driver Program. Don thank you for your commitment and volunteer years of service. Over the years and the miles traveled, you've touched the lives of many individuals on a cancer journey. Rest in peace dear friend. - Posted by: Lynda Ruban (staff at the Canadian Cancer Society) on: Jan 05, 2015

  • It is so very sad that Don is no longer here. Always smiling and cheerful, he helped to brighten many people's day as he drove them to and from CancerCare. He never entered our building without a cheery "Good Morning" or "Hello". Many patients commented on the nice driver that had brought them in or taken them home and they would be speaking about Don. My thoughts and prayers are with his family, the Volunteer Coordinators with Canadian Cancer Society and all the Volunteer Drivers who will definitely feel this loss. I'll miss you very much, Don. - Posted by: Melanie Edmonds (Co-Worker) on: Jan 05, 2015
