Date of Passing: Jan 19, 2015
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryFERNANDO FERNANDES Visitation will take place on Friday, January 23, 2015 from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. at Glen Lawn Funeral Home, 455 Lagimodiere Blvd. A private family interment will take place later. It is with great sadness that we mourn the unexpected and sudden passing of our loving father, grandfather and husband, Fernando Fernandes on January 19, 2015 at 80 years of age. He is survived by his wife of 53 years Maria Julia, his children Fernando (Josie) and Sandra (Ian), his beloved granddaughters Jordyn, Braedyn and Delia, two of his six siblings Manuel and Jose, and multiple nieces, nephews, as well as great nieces and nephews, both here and in Portugal. Fernando was born in the rural town of Vialonga, Portugal on July 13, 1934. He immigrated to Canada with his young family in June of 1972 to join his brothers, and worked at Strongco Steel for 27 years before finally retiring. He was a hard working individual who created a beautiful and loving home for his family. He enjoyed writing poetry, reading the newspapers, being outdoors, riding his bike, gardening, and training his racing pigeons. He was also an avid sports fan, and followed many of Portugal's soccer teams. Fernando enjoyed meeting people and made friends wherever he went, but nothing was more important to him then his family. He had a generous soul, and would help everyone who needed his help and although he never expected anything he found great joy in giving gifts to his family and friends. His happiest moments were spent in the midst of his family laughing and playing with his granddaughters. He will be laid to rest at Holy Angel Mausoleum in Green Acres Cemetery. In lieu of flowers a donation to the charity of your choice would be appreciated. Family and friends may sign a Book of Condolence at www.glenlawn.ca Glen Lawn Funeral Home 204-982-7550
