MARGARET LORRAINE REIMER
Date of Passing: Jan 22, 2015
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryMARGARET LORRAINE REIMER Lorraine, spunky red head, dedicated teacher, accordion player, bird lover, curling fan, accomplished traveler, stitchery whiz, community supporter, cherished friend, wife, mother and grandmother, passed quietly with family by her side on Thursday, January 22, 2015. Lorraine was born in Darlingford, MB, where she grew up on the family farm and completed her Teaching Certificate at the Provincial Normal School in 1954. Her first job was teaching in a one room school house in rural Manitoba. In 1956, she married Abram (Al) Reimer and together they ventured to the big city of Winnipeg where she began what would become a 35 year career with the Transcona Springfield School Division, teaching generations of elementary pupils. During that time, she herself was a student, completing her Bachelor's Degree in Education in 1980 as well as additional courses on remedial reading. After travelling Canada from coast to coast, enjoying an Alaskan cruise, and journeying to the faraway places of Ireland and Italy, she and Dad put down roots on the shores of Lake Winnipeg at Beaconia where she intermingled campfires, beach strolls, canoeing, birdwatching, needlepoint, and a little white wine with the spectacular sunsets. Lorraine was a tenacious and dedicated community pillar, serving through her work in the Transcona United Church (UCW, Explorers and Sunday School) and Confidence Rebekah Lodge #42 (Noble Grand, District Deputy President, Board Member of Golden Links Lodge). Mum was a challenge to keep up with as it seemed that she was always lunching with the Red Hat Society chapters (Baronasses and Diamond Divas), taking others to appointments, crafting fancy sandwiches, or performing the job of Bingo Lady' at Vic Wyatt House. Nothing, however, topped Mum's day more than a call or visit from her incredible grandchildren. Lorraine was predeceased by her parents Emily Evelyn and David Alexander Lumgair, her husband Abram Reimer, her twin brother Mervin Lyle Lumgair. She leaves to cherish her memory, her daughters Heather Lorraine (Derek) Matthes of Winnipeg and Dr. Patricia Diane (James) Pilkinton of Alabama, her brother Donald Lindsay (Karen) Lumgair and sister-in-law Doris Lumgair of Morden, and her brother-in-law Joseph (Betty) Reimer of Winnipeg. She will be greatly missed by her grandchildren Dana Heather Ciaran Matthes (Calgary), Sterling Derek David Matthes (Winnipeg), Alexander Clark and Hayden Irion Pilkinton (Alabama). Her presence will be sorely felt by many cherished friends, extended family, and her cottage companion George Doney. A memorial service to celebrate Mum's life is planned for early summer. The family respectfully requests that, in lieu of flowers, any donations in her honour be made to the Golden Links Lodge or the University of Winnipeg Education Award Fund. What a lovely lady! for me, the highlight of every Western Canada Water Conference was the presentation of the Al Reimer Award. It was coveted by all who were fortunate enough to receive it and a great part of what made it special was the presentation by Lorraine. She will be missed. - Posted by: Wayne Wall (Past President of Western Canada Water and Wastewater Association) on: Jan 24, 2015
