To an uncle I did not know but heard fond memories of, rest in peace. I wish our paths would have crossed. - Posted by: Rachel Zamora (Niece) on: Jul 11, 2015

I am one of Earl's sisters, Monica, and I reside in England. Earl left Trinidad when I was a little girl still in school. Before he left and when he visited, he helped me with my homework. We also used to play together and climb the plum tree until I fell off. Then we were banned from climbing the tree. When I moved to England in the 1990's, we spoke regularly on the phone about worldwide politics and had a laugh at what's going on. I got closer to him then even though we did not see each other. I will miss all the laughs that we had. In loving memory of my dear brother, rest in peace. Until we meet again. - Posted by: Monica Dickerson (Sister) on: Jul 11, 2015

The handsome Earl Mitchell is my uncle. His sister Jacqueline is my mom. I've always heard that Uncle Earl, my mom & one of their other brothers look alike. When Uncle & Don came to New York to visit I realized it's true (the resemblance I mean). The visit were awesome & exciting! Meeting my uncle & cousin who we haven't seen in many years. It was fascinating to look at mom, Aunty Lystra & uncle enjoying each other's company. They also had the same mannerisms. Uncle Earl & his siblings were mixed, as we call it in Trinidad. Between their parents they are mixed with Chinese, Portuguese, Spanish & Indian (hope I didn't leave out anything). I guess aunty Monica which is another sister of uncle Earl's must say was! What a mixture!! Mom always say he was very intelligent & always spoke highly of him & the family & loved him dearly!! If you mentioned Earl you can see the spark in her eyes. That's her big brother! I wished I could've spent more time with him. Uncle Earl will never be forgotten by his siblings, nieces, nephews, his great-nieces, nephews, nephews-in-law, nieces-in-law & others. You are with the Lord uncle we love you!!! - Posted by: Lynn Roberts (niece) on: Apr 20, 2015

I always called him Grandpa because that's who he was for my children. Grandpa would come over to the house and tell them stories about himself growing up in Trinidad. They were always very excited to repeat the stories. He was very proud that he had come to Canada to go to university, where he attended Union College. He had a bit of culture shock when he first arrived, as business doors were closed and in Trinidad they were always open, so he presumed that the patrons coming in and out must have been club members. It was hard to believe that the sun shone so brightly and yet it's so cold here and he didn't have proper outdoor wear at first. Things like that make me chuckle, but I'm sure were a concern at the time. He was always very thankful for the kindness of others who helped him get started here. He worked hard, did menial work at the Bay downtown, was a porter on the trains across Canada, and later was a teacher in the interlake, before becoming a government worker for the finance department in the Duff Roblin era and later the immigration department. He was an interesting fellow. I enjoyed hearing him whistle or sing a tune. He always had opinions about news stories. Don is wanting to add that he was really intelligent; an out of the box thinker. He had a degree in philosophy and could see things in a different perspective which helped in his job's court cases. Made the 1000 pages come down to the point. He was also there when computers started to come into the offices and he helped to implement them. We miss your advice and just know that you're loved. God's blessings to you Father, Grandpa. We're glad that you got to meet Cora, your great-granddaughter Mitchell. Love is forever. - Posted by: Laura Mitchell (daughter in law) on: Feb 07, 2015
