CLAUDIA VIOLET CHOMICHUK (nee BURTON) On February 1, 2015 Claudia Chomichuk, our beautiful mother, Amma and wife, began her next journey with family holding her hands and her husband's words of love spoken in her ear. Claudia now joins her parents Paul and Violet Ingun Burton, sharing stories amid curls of Afi's pipe smoke. Proud of her Magnusson-Sigmundson family line, Claudia often told stories of her sister Paulette Lapointe (Dennis), her many aunts and uncles and cousins growing up in Hnausa. She cherished the visits of Icelandic family, and never took for granted the efforts they made to stay connected. She said of family "strive to learn about your heritage, it makes you stronger and richer" Claudia nurtured that connection with her daughters Karen (Ken McKim), Carolyn, Diana, Jackie (Bruce Froebe) and son Gregory (Tara Cole-Mccaffrey) and nephew Ryan (Mara Koven). Claudia was a selfless host that was always ready with a warm meal and a made bed. She was a loving Amma to many grandchildren. Mackenzie, Cameron, Signy, Shay, Lief and Finnley and Kate will remember reading, cooking, exploring, gardening and making art with a woman who loved them all deeply. The only regret she expressed was to be absent while they grew into the fine people she knew they would become. In the St. Boniface School Division, Claudia was a teacher by profession and by example. She leaves behind colleagues and students she touched with lessons of kindness, patience and a love of life long learning. She grew and tended gardens fit for royalty but shared by all. As a prolific glass artist all those who visited her studio have now a piece of her legacy which will live to catch sun beams and memories for a long time to come. She spoke often of her loyal friends from near and far, with whom she could pick up conversations with as if time had never passed between meetings. Claudia often said that the best thing to happen to her was her husband Walter. Together they made 42 years of memories and left friends and footprints across the globe on many "once in a lifetime" adventures. They lived together at Lakespeak at Hillside Beach, the sanctuary they designed together, which remains a place of love, life and memories. Mom loved to stand on the beach and watch the sun slip down below the water. She loved the sky bursting with colours as if in jubilant thanks for the Sun's work that day. Sometimes her old friend Lonesome Charlie, the point's resident Pelican, would drift by, his wings spread in a reddening sky. She was always at peace then. Untouched by anything in those fleeting, perfect moments. The next sunset you see, think of her, joyfully, and be at peace. It is with extreme admiration that the family extends thanks to all the staff of the compassion filled ward of 3E at Riverview Health Centre. Though they could not cure they always showed that they could care. We love you and miss you greatly and will remember you always. Claudia's memorial service will be held on Thursday, February 5, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. at Glen Lawn Funeral Home, 455 Lagimodiere Blvd., with a reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Riverview Health Centre. Family and friends may sign a Book of Condolence at www.glenlawn.ca Glen Lawn Funeral Home 204-982-7550

  • We are very saddened to hear of Claudia's passing. Indeed we feel very privileged to have met Claudia and Walter, first through her wonderful stained glass, which blossomed into sharing enjoyable times together socially. She was a beautiful lady inside and out and positively emanated love. The days ahead will be difficult for her family, which she was so immensely proud of. Her obituary was a wonderful tribute to her and her life and legacy. You will carry Claudia and her influence with you. I too am sorry that she could not witness her grandchildren grow into adulthood, as the gardens that she so lovingly tended. - Posted by: Patrice and Gregory Berko, Victoria Beach and Calgary (friends) on: Feb 07, 2015

  • My condolences to Walter and family in this difficult time. In reflection, my memories go back to our time shared at Van Belleghem and crazy discussions during our carpool days.
