LORRAINE NICOLE BEHRENDT Peacefully on February 2, 2015 Lorraine Nicole Behrendt, 76 years old, passed away at St. Boniface Hospital. Laurie is survived by her children, Rory (Kathy), Lisa (Doug), her grandchildren, Mark (Candice), Kassie and her great-granddaughter, Stella, also her sisters Holly (Len), Adele, Gail, and chosen grandchildren Nina and Darryl. Laurie was predeceased by her parents, Vicky Sinkewicz and Nicholas Ruthkowsky, and her beloved husband of over 50 years, Robert Kurt Behrendt known as Bumpy to most. Laurie was born in Winnipeg's North End, living her childhood on Magnus in the family's home. In her teenage years she met and married her love of her life Bob April 2, 1956. Early in their married life they moved to Transcona and began raising their children. She was employed at Transcona Pool and worked for a local ballet studio. When Bob's career with Air Canada required a transfer, the family moved to Montreal, Quebec. While there Laurie pursued and achieved a Bachelor of Social Work, supervised a homemaker's program and then worked on international adoptions, a job she truly enjoyed. She also worked as a swimming instructor for Lisa's Brownie and Girl Guide groups. Laurie and Bob returned to Winnipeg in 2002. Laurie and Bob loved to travel. They took many trips to places such as the Bahamas, Barbados, and Hawaii. In their retirement they eventually settled on wintering in their "Wee House" in Nokomis, Florida at Bay Lake Estates. Together there they enjoyed the many social activities, bingo, crafts and line dancing. Laurie's favourite pastime was swimming and was often found by the pool in Florida or at their condo pool in Winnipeg. After Bob's passing in 2006, Laurie pursued an active social life. She continued to go to Florida in the winter often accompanied by her daughter Lisa's family. She also joined the "Red Hatters" in Florida and continued attending events here in Winnipeg with the Passionate Purples. Laurie got Lisa involved with the Red Hatters and they enjoyed the monthly fun the Passionate Purples did each month. Laurie also would attend the "Round Table" coffee group in her building, and went on many casino trips with her friends from the condo at Marina Del Ray. Her favourite time of year was Christmas and she would spend hours picking out just the right gifts and each one beautifully wrapped and bowed. As well she had a special fondness for the animals in the extended family, specifically Neo, Pumpkin, and Pogi. In the more recent years Laurie faced medical difficulty with a strong determination and a positive outlook that inspired her children. Her final wish was to finally see her Bob who she has extremely missed especially during her health struggles. The service will be held at Thomson "In the Park", 1291 McGillivray Blvd., this Saturday, February 7 at 2:00 p.m. with reception to follow. If friends desire, donations may be made to The Humane Society, or CancerCare Manitoba. THOMSON "IN THE PARK" 204-925-1120 Condolences may be sent to www.thomsoninthepark.com

  • May sincere condolences to her family. I worked with Laurie many years ago at Ville Marie. She was a kind hearted wonderful lady, who once she retired & returned to Winnipeg, never forgot to send me a Chanukah card every year as well as an update of her previous year. I will miss her terribly. Rest in peace-you will now be reunited with your beloved. May her family be spared further sorrows. - Posted by: Franceen Engel Chmielash (Friend & Co-worker ) on: Feb 20, 2015

  • She was a strong willed person who gave freely of her love towards the family. She has now left them to go to her husband whom she missed greatly. There was a great love between this couple envied by many of us. May she now rest in peace without pain and us that remain be thankful that we were part of her life. I will really miss her annual Xmas card and the accompanying letter relating in detail the events of the past year. My condolences to the family. - Posted by: Richard Rougeau (friend) on: Feb 06, 2015
