ELEANOR MARY GWENDOLINE GRIFFIN (MCCARTHY) Gwen left this world on February 6, 2015, with family by her side, at Seven Oaks General Hospital. She fought the good fight. Gwen was born April 13, 1922 in Dublin, Ireland. She will always be loved and missed by her best friend and husband of 69 and a half years, Earl, daughter Sheila and "son" Scott McKellar. We were truly blessed. She was predeceased by her parents, Frank and Nance McCarthy, brothers Charlie and Bill, sister Eileen Griffin, and many long-time friends. She is survived by sisters Peggy (Al Fleury) and Rory, extended family, and friends. Special thanks to Winnipeg Fire and Paramedic Service, staff at Seven Oaks General Hospital (you know who you are), and the pharmacy team at Shoppers Polo Park. Honouring Gwen's wishes, a family graveside service will be held on Tuesday, February 10 at 2:00 p.m. at Glen Lawn Funeral Home with no reception. Please meet inside funeral home prior to the service. Flowers gratefully declined. If desired, donations may be made to a charity of choice. "How we shall laugh at the trouble of parting when we meet again!" Family and friends may sign a Book of Condolence at www.glenlawn.ca Glen Lawn Funeral Home 204-982-7550

  • She was a wonderful lady with a beautiful heart. Always so friendly, warm and caring. Always smiling and cheerful. I considered her part of my home family life as she was my neighbour for almost 20 years. She is truly going to be missed. My condolences to the family for their loss. God Bless! - Posted by: Darlene Thompson (Neighbour) on: Feb 10, 2015

  • We were surprised and saddened to receive the phone call from Sheila, telling us of Auntie Gwen's passing. Auntie Gwen always kept our family informed of news and updates in the McCarthy family through several long and interesting conversations. We always were amazed with Auntie Gwen's remarkable recollection of past events and the interest she took in our side of the family even though she had never met many of us. In all our conversations, her steadfast determination to maintain the family ties, to learn about our children and grandchildren, to keep us updated on the well being of the McCarthy family, to share a laugh or two over past family adventures and misadventures, never once did we hear her complain about any personal challenges she may have been faced with. We thank Gwen for being part of our lives and share the sorrow being felt by Earl, Sheila, Scott, family and friends. You will always be remembered. Thank you Sheila for letting us know. - Posted by: Jim McCarthy (Aunt) on: Feb 10, 2015
