ERIC (DUSTY) VICTOR TITHERIDGE January 20, 1923 - February 12, 2015 On February 12, 2015 Eric (Dusty) Victor Titheridge passed away peacefully, never having fully recovered from a recent surgery. Born in Shedfield, Hampshire, England, Dusty spent his early years there. In 1942 he volunteered for wartime service in the British Royal Air Force Bomber Command and proudly served until 1946 in North Africa, Italy and the Middle East, rising to the rank of Squadron Leader. While on a short leave during R.A.F. training in Manitoba, Dusty met his true love, Ruth Harrington Hunter. Dusty and Ruth courted by correspondence for over five years while he served overseas. Upon his honourable discharge from the R.A.F, Dusty followed his heart and immigrated to Winnipeg where he reunited with Ruth. They were married in 1947. He attended the University of Manitoba, graduating in 1950 with his Bachelor of Science in Agriculture and joined the grain industry with United Grain Growers. In addition to his distinguished career with UGG, he also served as a board member of the Banff Institute of Advanced Management, the St. Boniface Hospital, Chairman of the Winnipeg Commodity Exchange. He was active in the Grain Elevator and Processing Society, serving as its International President in 1974. After 31 years with UGG, Dusty began Blackbrook Services, his private company, and operated this successful enterprise until his retirement. He was a proud lifetime member of the Wartime Pilots Association and was its president in 1994. In 2012 he was awarded the Queen Elizabeth Diamond Jubilee Medal. A long-time resident of St. James, he was an active member of St. Andrews Anglican Church serving as treasurer for several years. On his passing Dusty leaves behind his beloved wife of 67 years, Ruth, four children Trevor (Zoe), Janet (Keith), Mark, Alan (Barb), and his wonderful grandchildren, Matthew (Chantal), Whitney, Robin, Tim, Michael, Mykiala (Derek), Lindsay (Brent), Maureen (Matt), and Karen (Rob), and two great-grandchildren Grace and Andrew, all of whom he was extremely proud of. A Memorial Service is to take place at St. Andrews Anglican Church, 2700 Portage Ave., Winnipeg, Thursday, February 19, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Dusty's memory to the Canadian Diabetes Association or a charity of your choice.
