JOHN CRAWFORD FINLAYSON We regret to announce the passing of our father and grandfather on February 18, 2015. Jack was born on July 19, 1927 in London Middlesex County. He was raised in the Amherstburg area of Ontario, leaving school after grade 7, and later joined the Canadian Armed Forces, where he rose to the rank of Second Lieutenant. On a blind date, at a Remembrance Day Ball, in 1955, he met Florence Annie Hayes, a nurse originally from Dungannon, Northern Ireland. About five weeks later, on December 17, Flo and Jack married. Jack had a long career as a civil servant with the Department of National Defence (retiring in 1983). Jack was very supportive of Flo continuing her career, through and after the birth of all four of their children, Michael, Leslie Ann, Joan and John. There were trials, especially the death of Leslie Ann, in 1960, just after her first birthday. But they persevered and together enjoyed many happy summers at their cottage at Deighton Beach. Dad loved golf and baseball and reading. He was shocked by Flo's sudden passing on January 21, 2011. The last few months of his life were distressing to all who cared for him, as he lost his sight, his mobility and his energy. His release was merciful. He leaves to mourn his memory: his son John and wife Krystal, and John's son Ty; daughter Joan and partner Terry, and Joan's children, Abby and John; son Michael and wife Nancy, and their children, Katie, Emily and Anne; Flo's sister Ida; sister Patti; and brother Sandy and wife Carol. Jack's Funeral Service will be held Monday, March 2, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. at Glen Lawn Funeral Home, with Reverend Nancy Finlayson officiating. The family would like to express their appreciation to the staff of Victoria General Hospital, for the care they provided over dad's last few weeks. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the CNIB. Family and friends may sign a Book of Condolence at www.glenlawn.ca Glen Lawn Funeral Home 204-982-7550
