DAVE POSTHUMUS
Born: Mar 27, 1976
Date of Passing: Feb 20, 2015
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryDAVE (POTSY) POSTHUMUS March 27, 1976 - February 20, 2015 It is with heavy hearts and tearful eyes that we announce the passing of our beloved husband, father, son, brother and friend Dave Posthumus. Surrounded by his family and friends Dave passed away after a two year courageous battle with Cancer. He will be deeply missed by his loving wife Charla, his three beautiful children who meant the world to him, Matthew, Katie and Ashley, his mother Marlene and his father Martin (Judy), sisters Sheryl (Ross), Kristen (Daniel), sister and brothers-in-law, Christy, Curtis, Shawn and Karin, and stepsister Char (Eddy); his Pake who meant so much to him, mother and father-in-law Brigitte and Wayne and Bill and Val, nieces and nephews Alyia, Lexi, Cherine, Kalen, Riley, Nathan, Pandora and Ayden, and too many good friends to name. Dave was predeceased by his Beppe and his Oma. Dave was born on March 27, 1976 in Winnipeg, Manitoba. He grew up in East Kildonan and attended Calvin Christian School and River East Collegiate where he met the love of his life Charla. Dave enjoyed numerous sports and excelled at all of them, with hockey being his favourite - he went on to play junior hockey. He also enjoyed fishing, ice fishing and camping with family and friends. His first job was at The Bake Oven which his Pake opened over 60 years ago. His close friend Al brought him to work for Derksen Plumbing at 19 years old and where he stayed for the next 20 years. In a few short years Dave became a Project Superintendent for many of the biggest jobs in Manitoba. His first being Simplot in Portage La Prarie, then CSRP, Manitoba Hydro Tower, the Canadian Museum of Human Rights and started the new Women's Hospital. He was a perfectionist and natural at everything he did. Dave and Charla's backyard Oasis is a true testament of his unlimited skills, determination and hard work. Dave and Charla were married on October 4, 2003. A year later their first child Matthew was born followed by their two beautiful daughters Katie and Ashley. Their life together as a family was filled with so many cherished memories and they will never ever be forgotten. Dave was sadly diagnosed with Esophageal Cancer in May 2013. He fought so hard through his many treatments and extensive surgery with a brave face and his unique sense of humour. He never let his children see the struggles he was going through. It seemed he had won his battle with this horrible disease but it sadly returned in July 2014. Charla and Dave would like to thank all our family and friends for all your support through over the last two years. We are so lucky to have such wonderful people in our lives. A celebration of Dave's life will be held on Thursday, February 26, 1:00 p.m. at the Covenant Christian Reformed Church, 653 Knowles Ave. in Winnipeg, MB. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to The Dave Posthumus Trust Fund, a trust fund for their children, through any branch of Crosstown Civic Credit Union.

This is a mournful day as I reflect on my nephew. My earliest memory is visiting him in hospital when he was born. Was he born with his big smile and unique textural white hair? I'm blessed to know. I feel sadness that cancer is a cruel illness. I've been grieving the loss of vibrancy. In my heart's eye I see Dave clearly. I am grateful that he was a personable charming gentleman. He exuded confidence and was a focal point whenever he entered a gathering because of his friendly charisma. He loved sharing the wonderfulness of time together with family. Happiness that I will always have fond memories of his joy. Gratitude that he cherished Charla, Matthew, Katie and Ashley. - Posted by: D Posthumus (AuntieDebbie) on: Feb 26, 2015

I knew Dave in High School n thought he was cool. High School ends and we all think we got it all figured out so we hit the gas pedal and hit the road in whatever direction looks slick. Big Dreams. Big time. Remember we got it all figured out right! Sooo how'd that work out fer Y'all? For me it was like "How'd I get a license to drive this rig - never mind floor it?' It didn't take long (2-Years or so) to run into the people on the same hammer-down highway and ask em "how ya makin out Buddddy?" For whatever reason, during that season, I ran into three solid dudes that found a trail that led somewhere. And they gave me the directions: Ryan Kubas, Jay Slevinsky and Dave Posthumus. Their enthusiasm for what they had discovered led me on the road I followed. For anyone who has been through an apprenticeship it is dicey. Highs and fricken lows. But stick with it and you WILL see reward. Nothin like coming home knowing you've "Leveled-Up" For us boyz climbing the ladder- learning the way- gaining respect- getting an opportunity to shine-going home proud-Seemed like Dave kinda nailed it. Built a brotherhood, accomplished milestones, mentored a generation and shaped the future - with tact, confidence, humour and pride. You want to see your peers succeed and when they do you must Applaud. Cheers To You Dave! - Posted by: Chris Bablo () on: Feb 25, 2015

There are no words to express how sorry we are for your loss, it was obvious how much of a loving and loyal husband and father Dave was. He will always be in your hearts and watching over you from above! - Posted by: Shannon Neufeld (Friend) on: Feb 24, 2015

I met Charla while working at CMAC where we spent a lot of time together. Although I didn't know Dave very well, it seemed as though I did since he and my husband were all we talked about. We both married and started our families around the same time and kept in touch with sushi lunch dates. Saying good bye to Dave is so heartbreaking, unreal and unfair! I wish you and the kids all the love and support you need to work through this tragedy Char. One day at a time friend. Xo - Posted by: Miki Hanslip (Friend of Charla) on: Feb 24, 2015
