He then became Deputy Minister of Tourism, Recreation and Cultural Affairs, and later chaired the Clean Environment Commission. Stan had a great love of music and especially enjoyed singing Barbershop with the Winnipeg Golden Chordsmen and the Happy Homesteaders. He was very knowledgeable, well-read and politically-minded, following both historical and current events. He enjoyed sports, playing bridge with friends, and engaging in stimulating discussions on a wide variety of topics, often enhanced by his dry, quick wit and keen sense of humour. Stanley was a true gentleman, a kind, generous and compassionate man who had a positive impact on many lives through his words and actions. • A tribute to grandstan as his is considered me his nephew at times, he was strict but he meant well! At the lake it was 70-80F but he refused to go for a swim. I’ll just stick to my rhubarb! - Posted by: Michael h nash (Foster father) on: Apr 02, 2019

  • To Sylvia and all the rest of the family, Stan's obituary is a great tribute and celebrates a life well lived. I have fond memories of Uncle Orrin, "Uncie", since he never liked being called Orrin. We visited Winnipeg every two years in the summer until our early teens and from the beginning were dazzled by our handsome, dashing Uncie especially when he got his snazzy convertible. After he married Sylvia, Sally and I thought they were the most gorgeous couple, then we were lucky to have all these younger cousins arrive. Stan loved his family and he and his sister, our mother, had such a special relationship. I felt fortunate to be able to spend time with Stan and Sylvia in Florida when they would visit Mom. Stan had a fondness for Big Buy and I think he must be a fan of the Dollar Store. I will always remember the special trip to Washington, DC where I toured around the Capital with the two of them. We had such a fabulous time. Even though he was dealing with a medical problem he was not a complainer. It was always regrettable we couldn't be together more frequently but they did get to Davis's wedding and Jack and I had some quality time in Florida with the the two of them. Stan was a very special guy, intelligent, caring, funny and fun. We will miss him. Love Linda - Posted by: Linda Salisbury (Niece) on: Mar 10, 2015
