ELEONORA GERVINO (nee PUTARO) February 21, 1932 - February 24, 2015 Eleonora passed peacefully in her sleep. She is forever missed by her loving son Lou and his daughters Ellen (Nicholas), Angela and Sara. She is predeceased by her loving husband Francesco, her brothers Joe, Mario and Luigi, and her brothers-in-law Frank, Stan, Tony, and Reno. She is eternally remembered by her sisters Dalia, Sestilia, Maria, Rita; sisters-in-law Genoeffa and Maggie. Eleonora was born in Lappano, Cosenza in Italy, where she grew up with her family and survived through the depression and war. She joined her brothers in Winnipeg, with her fiancé Francesco Gervino in 1955 and they promptly married the same year. They settled in Winnipeg, and Eleonora worked for many years in the garment industry at places such as Sterling Cloak and Victoria Leather. She dedicated her life to making her son and husband comfortable in their home. She is especially remembered for her love of cooking and the amazing meals that she would make for friends and family. She was a particularly loving grandmother who would teach her granddaughters the Italian language, the art of cooking and gardening. As her health declined, she no longer could cultivate the tomatoes that she loved. She will always be remembered for making sure her family had a full meal in their stomachs and love in their hearts. During the season of Lent flowers cannot remain in the Church. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to CancerCare Manitoba. Eulogy will be read at 10:30 a.m., followed by the Mass of Christian Burial which will be celebrated on Wednesday, March 4, 2015 at Holy Rosary Roman Catholic Church, 510 River Ave., Father Sam Argenziano, Celebrant. • Sympathy to the family on the loss of your grandmother. - Posted by: Rosalie Sigurdson (None) on: Mar 01, 2015

  • We opened up the store at Northgate Shopping Centre about 12 years ago. Mrs Gervino was one of the first customers who came in and said hello. Over the years she became not only a loyal customer but a great friend. She would always stop by to say hello coming in with a smile, making us all feel good. She always talked about her family, she loved them so very much. God bless her soul and bring comfort to her family.
