SUMIYO YAMADA Tuesday, March 3, 2015 my true love and partner in marriage for 61 years passed away. Sumiyo (Sue) Yamada, (nee Mori) will be mourned by her husband Toshio (Charlie) Yamada, her two sons Gerald (Gayle) of Calgary, AB; Perry (Marion) of Thompson, MB. Grandma will be greatly missed by her grandchildren Katie (Ivan) Chan; Brent, of Calgary; Melissa (Andrew) Lennox of LaSalle, MB; Charlie (Malorie) of Thompson, MB and great-grandchildren Hana and Elliot. She will also be missed by her sister-in-law Mary Mori and her many nephews and nieces. Sumiyo is predeceased by her father and mother, two sisters and two brothers. Sumiyo was born in Port Haney, B.C. on August 28, 1921. She moved to Manitoba in September 1942. In 1949 she began her nursing training at Brandon Mental Hospital and graduated in 1953 as a Registered Psychiatric Nurse. Sumiyo was employed at Deer Lodge Veteran's Hospital retiring after 25 years of service. Sue took pleasure in traveling and visiting family. She spent many hours gardening, knitting and watching the Montreal Canadiens. She enjoyed her volunteer work at the Japanese Centre. Of course she always loved fishing, casino trips, and early morning walks in Kildonan Park with Charlie through the years. Her time spent with grandchildren was always fun and filled with laughter. Sue spent her last four years at St. Joseph's Residence where she received exemplary care. The staff was always kind and compassionate toward her and Charlie which made his daily visits most enjoyable. Our family would like to thank the staff as we greatly appreciated all of their work and support for Sue and Charlie. In lieu of flowers the family is requesting that donations be made to St. Joseph's Residence Inc., 1149 Leila Ave., or the Japanese Cultural Centre, 180 McPhillips Street. Following Sue's wishes, there will not be a funeral service. CROPO FUNERAL CHAPEL 204-586-8044
