JUNE PHILLIPS Peacefully on Saturday, February 28, 2015 June Phillips passed away. She was born on July 22, 1921. She was predeceased by her husband Allan in 2000 after 52 years of marriage. She is survived by her children Sharon Philp (Jim), Brian (Arlene) and Brock (Karen) as well as her grandchildren Nicole Philp (Denis Pointer), Amy Phillips, Glynnis Phillips and Shannon Owings (Steven). She is also survived by her sister-in-law, Alice Phillips and several nieces and nephews. Mom lived a long full life. She was a working Mom, long before that was common, in order to provide special things for the family. She worked mainly for the federal government at the Unemployment Insurance Commission, Health Canada and Statistics Canada. Mom and Dad travelled extensively, sometimes to swim meets that were out of country, or just to see new places. Their travels took them to Australia and New Zealand, China, South America, the Caribbean and Europe, once for the 50th Anniversary of the ending of The Second World War in Holland, as Dad was a veteran of the war. She had an active social life, with many close friends. Mom and dad were snowbirds for many years in Pharr, Texas. Her boys were very involved in competitive swimming, and she and other Moms from the Cardinal Swim Club met monthly for lunch for 40 years. She was an active member of the Vic Wyatt House community, where she lived for 15 years. Mom's favourite place was their cottage at Brereton Lake in the Whiteshell. They bought a small, one room cottage and over the years added on to it one addition at a time. Mom enjoyed having friends and especially family come to the cottage. She was a Lake Director for the Whiteshell Cottagers Association, and was heavily involved in revival of the Whiteshell Echo. She was made an Honorary Director of the Association for her work. Thank you to the staff at Vista Park Lodge for their compassion, and taking care of her and the family during her last days. Cremation has taken place. According to her wishes, there will be no funeral. Flowers are gratefully declined, but if you wish, donations to the Winnipeg Humane Society would be appreciated.
