JACK SHINGLETON It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Jack Shingleton on March 2, 2015 at the Seven Oaks Hospital. Jack was 92 years of age. Left to cherish his memory are son William (Marilyn); daughter Linda (Fred); six grandchildren, Charity, Aaron (Dulce), Taylor, Jamie, Kristopher (Jen), Laura (Drew) and three great-grandchildren, Lily, Grace and Genesis. Jack was born in Winnipeg and spent his early years growing up in the North End. During the Second World War he joined the Navy and trained as a radar operator. Returning home after the war he married Wanda, the love of his life, and together they built their family home and raised their children. Jack was a cabinet maker by trade and worked at Brown and Rutherford Ltd. until his retirement. His carpentry skill was well known and he gave freely of his time to anyone who asked. Jack also enjoyed travelling, gardening, duck carving and the many years spent at the cottage. He will be sadly missed by all who knew him. The family would like to extend their deepest thanks to the staff at Seven Oaks Hospital. Your kindness and compassion were greatly appreciated. Cremation has taken place. A memorial service celebrating Jack's life will be held at a later date. Flowers gratefully declined. If friends so desire, donations may be made the Winnipeg Humane Society, 45 Hurst Way, Winnipeg, R3T 929 or to a charity of one's choice. CROPO FUNERAL CHAPE 204-586-8044

Condolences & Memories (10 entries)

  • I truly do not have the words as it seems like the end of an era. Goodbye Uncle Jack, even though I've moved across country for the last twenty something years I'll always remember my childhood playing in the basement with the other kids and all of the wonderful time spent during the holidays with the good old family. I'll never forget you telling me about your time in the Navy when I was a punk teenager who obviously needed discipline. Summers at Sandy Hook. Great memories! Well you can help Aunty Babe and Great Grandma with the Christmas baking up in heaven now. In my thoughts forever. - Posted by: Harley (Harland) Martin (Great nephew) on: Mar 09, 2015

  • I did not know Mr. Shingleton personally although I did meet him once or twice. He was a colleague of my late father at Brown and Rutherford and a real gem of a fellow my dad would say. My sincere condolences on your loss. - Posted by: Likey Segal (née Shklarsky) () on: Mar 07, 2015

  • We were very sorry to hear of your dad's passing. Whenever we are at the cottage we go down 8th Ave. to see if anyone is there. Both of your parents were special people and we were fortunate to have known them. We are away now and won't be returning to Winnipeg until the end of April. Sorry we won't get to see you. Condolences to your family from all the Pratts. - Posted by: Fred & Sharon Pratt (Friends of Bill) on: Mar 07, 2015

  • I always remember Jack as a gruff and fair man. Obviously very tolerant as he and Wanda put up with a bunch of teenagers on a daily basis. We were always welcome and the coffee was always on. Any one who would let his son play a set of drums in the basement had to have had a large heart. Bless him. Dana - Posted by: Dana Sawchuk (friend of son Bill) on: Mar 07, 2015
