EDDA SIGRIDUR OLAFSDOTTIR February 18, 1939 January 19, 2015 Peacefully after a long illness, Edda passed away in Reykjavik, Iceland surrounded by her loving family. Edda leaves her family here in Canada, the US and in Iceland to remember and celebrate her life. Her five children, Olafur, Ragnar, Anna, Kristjan and Vikingur, their spouses and many grandchildren (Edda, Thora, Olafur, Iris, Sif, Sara, Kyla, Kaelyn, Stefan, Seth, Caleb, Jezra, Israel and Leifur) were the great loves in her life. She provided her family with absolute unconditional love and support, and we are forever grateful. Edda was part of a large family in Iceland with parents Olafur Jonsson and Berta Björnsdottir and five siblings, sisters Rakel, Gunnhildur, Sjöfn, and Olöf and brother Kjartan. Edda was a vibrant soul with many friends. Our mother had the unique ability to make the spirits of others soar. Her greatest passion was entertaining and she hosted many a family from Iceland at the family home. Birthdays, holidays and especially Christmas were exciting times for Edda. She could always be found cooking or baking traditional fare for all her family and friends and was notably an amazing baker with a few recipes such as Edda's Brown cake and Cinnamon Torte becoming famous in Winnipeg. She was also a painter, an accomplished guitar player and singer and loved to play for anyone! She was involved in the Icelandic community and volunteered her time to Betelstadur and other centres. Edda emigrated from Iceland in 1973 with her husband Thrainn and children, Anna, Kristjan and Vikingur. Her two oldest children, Olafur and Ragnar, stayed behind in Iceland, a difficult decision that she spoke often of. She lived in St. Vital, Tuxedo and Linden Woods before buying her condo in Fort Richmond. She was one of Shaklee's first Winnipeg distributors in the 70's and was very successful in it. She continued with Shaklee until retiring in 2010. Edda's healthy and active lifestyle ended much too soon as dementia stole her last 15 years from us and she had to be moved back to her homeland for care in 2011. We are so very fortunate she was part of our lives. Many thanks to her siblings for their kindness and support during her illness and special thanks to Olafur, Ragnar and Gudbjorg for their wonderful care in Iceland. Edda was laid to rest in Iceland on January 23, 2015 with her family in attendance. Please join us for a special celebration of her life on Saturday, March 21, 2015 from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. at The Round Table, 800 Pembina Hwy.

Elsku Edda mín. Eins og við sögðum svo oft hér áður fyrr "I love you so much it hurts" og síðan þú fluttir til Íslands hef ég oft saknað þín svo mikið að mig verkjar í hjartað. Við vorum Winnipeg systur í burtu frá okkar Íslands systum Við ólum börnin okkar upp saman og ræddum um hluti sem aðeins systur ræða um. Að sjálfsögðu vorum við ekki alltaf sammála en það er önnur saga. Marlene, i Vancouver and I, we did light candles on your last birthday and we remembered all the good things about you and there were so many. You were loved and treasured by her family and friends With all my love þín vinkona Gunnvör - Posted by: Gunnvör Ásmundsson (Friend) on: Mar 19, 2015

I was very sorry to hear of Edda's passing, my condolences to her family. I remember her taking me to lunch at the Round Table that first year she became our neighbor and we discovered we had the same birthday! (I always wished it would have become a tradition!) Edda was a special lady and I was glad to have known her. - Posted by: Thora Innes (friend) on: Mar 18, 2015

What we remember best about Edda during our time together in Winnipeg was her generosity. Edda was warm, generous and affectionate. During her last years in Reykjavík, the sweetest aspects of her nature endured. She always received us well. Our best wishes and condolences to her family. - Posted by: Hulda Karen Daníelsdóttir, Guy Stewart (Friends) on: Mar 16, 2015

Edda was a very special woman. I will remember her fondly. My childhood was blessed with good memories of times spent with her and her family. Anna was a good friend. I still have a piece of yarn with a few stitches I made under her direction. I wish I had spent more time learning that craft. I often crave her brown cake. I remember her baking it in her kitchen. She was always fun to be around. My condolences to her family and friends. - Posted by: Heidi Thomasson (Neighbour ) on: Mar 15, 2015
