JOSEPH WILLIAM SOROKOWSKI April 6, 1924 - March 17, 2015 Dad passed away suddenly at the Seine River Retirement Residence with his daughter Donna at his side, at the age of 90 years. Joseph was predeceased by his first wife, Rosilda, and second wife, Jean. Dad will be missed by his children: Ron (Lilia) and Donna (Aldo), and his grandchildren: Daniel (Raissa), Selena (Carson), and Robbie (Lisa); his step-daughter Mary, step-grandson David, and step-granddaughter Cheryle, as well as his siblings and numerous nieces and nephews. Dad was born to a farming family in St. Claude, Manitoba and farmed there himself with his wife, Rosilda, for a few years until moving to Winnipeg. He started working for the City of Winnipeg in 1955 and retired in 1985. Sometime after the passing of his beloved Rosilda in 1976, Dad had the fortune to meet and marry his second wife, Jean, with whom he enjoyed companionship and travelling into both of their senior years until Jean's passing in 2013. Dad was a jack of all trades and had numerous hobbies and interests, among which were carpentry, making furniture, reading and playing the violin. He enjoyed spending time with his family and entertained us with his many interesting stories. Dad's favourite sayings were, "don't work harder, work smarter" and "drive with sense, save expense". The family is most grateful to the staff at the Seine River Retirement Residence for the care Dad received during the time he lived there: thank you. Funeral service for Joseph will be held on Monday, March 23, 2015 at 2:00 p.m., at St. Bernadette Parish, 820 Cottonwood Road, where he was a long time active member. Fr. Fred Olds to officiate the service. Interment at Glen Lawn Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, those who wish to do so may donate to the St. Boniface Hospital Foundation or to the Winnipeg Humane Society. Family and friends wishing may sign a book of condolence at www.glenlawn.ca. Glen Lawn Funeral Home 982-7550

Condolences & Memories (2 entries)

  • Dear Family: I knew Joe and Jean as communion ministers when I was the co-ordinator. They were such gentle people. I must add that my daughter, a florist, was always impressed by Joe, he would come in almost weekly to buy flowers for Jean - he stood out for her in his gentleness and thoughtfulness. My sincere sympathy. - Posted by: Jeannine Paradis (church friend) on: Mar 23, 2015

  • We shared the same first and last names and very possibly the same ancestry; but we never met or knew each other. I am the son of Ludwig(Leo) Sorokowski and the grandson of Jan (John) Sorokowski. Condolences to his family and may he rest in peace. - Posted by: Joseph Peter Sorokowski () on: Mar 22, 2015
