ROBERT (BOB) GEORGE STRICKLAND It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Bob, on March 24, 2015, at the age of 64. He leaves to cherish his life, his wife Diane of 35 years; children, Dan (Lauralee), Kelly (Tara), Suzanne (David) and Lisa. His seven grandchildren, Drake, Sabrina, Cassandra, Emalee, Daniel, Hannah and Wyatt will miss him dearly. He will also be missed by his many nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family and friends, especially longtime friends, Gary and Sandy. He was predeceased by his parents, Philip and Eileen; brothers, Rick and Bill. Bob was born in Moose Jaw on June 16, 1950. He lived for a time in Hanna, Saskatoon and Thunder Bay. Growing up, he loved playing hockey and volleyball. Bob graduated from Selkirk Collegiate in 1968, and then Confederation College in 1970. Bob then moved to Winnipeg in 1971, where he met and married Diane in 1980. Together they devoted their lives to raising their family. Bob always had a strong sense of responsibility to provide for and take care of his family and was very proud of them and the life he built. Bob had a long dedicated career with CN Rail lasting 32 years before retiring in 2001. He enjoyed working around the home and yard. After quickly completing his retirement "to do" list, he began a second career at Progressive Auto. The practical jokes like the "Wall of Shame" made for great fun. An avid reader, Bob had a photographic memory, a highly developed vocabulary and a keen interest in current affairs. He provided the family with many laughs and stories to remember him by. His love of music was endless, as was his thirst for knowledge and technology. He was well known for his quick wit, strong will and determination, which served him well throughout his life. As his health declined, he was a model of strong will and determination till the end. Our family would like to thank the many doctors and nurses for their expertise and care. Also, Palliative and Home Care for their support. A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, May 1, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. at Glen Lawn Funeral Home at 455 Lagimodiere Blvd. In lieu of flowers, donations in Bob's memory may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, Youville Diabetes Centre or St. Boniface Hospital. Thank you Bob for being a good sport, as the laughter we shared will forever bring us joy! Family and friends may sign a Book of Condolence at www.glenlawn.ca Glen Lawn Funeral Home 204-982-7550

Condolences & Memories (2 entries)

  • All the grandchildren came together and always looked forward to spending time in the pool during the summer, which he tended to devotedly. When I was really little my older brother Drake could swim to the bottom of the pool and I couldn't so he had the idea to stick the pool cleaning net all the way down so I could shimmy down to the bottom of the pool and touch it for the first time. It seems silly and simple now but it meant so much back then. Pepere (as we call him) always had a way to make the biggest impact with seemingly simple but meaningful gestures. - Posted by: Sabrina Witwicki (GrandDaughter) on: May 16, 2019

  • Bob had an infectious way about him. He was always happy to see you & truly was interested in what you had to say. You always knew when he was about to laugh, because he would have this little smirk with his mouth. He never judged you & enjoyed a serious talk. He loved his wife & children & only wanted the best for his family. Bob was unique in his own way. God bless you Diane & your family. - Posted by: Frank & Yvette Bennici (cousin) on: Apr 26, 2015
