DONALD RICHARD ALAN MILLER Peacefully, on Sunday, April 26, 2015, at Poseidon Personal Care Centre Don Miller passed away. Beloved husband of Shirley; dad of Heather Brownlee (Tom), Brenda Gagnon (Greg), and Glen (Adele); grandpa of Justin, Jenelle (Hans), Krystal (Ron), Tamara, Jaryn (Cory), Robin, and Ryan; gigipa of Ayden, Isabelle, Austyn, Carter, Lèo and Colton. He is survived by his sister Norma Moulder (Norm), sisters-in-law Beverley Bula, Eileen Lauder, Freda Petterson and their families. He was predeceased by his parents, parents-in-law, brother-in-law Carl Petterson, cousin Susan Smith (Miller), and nephew Perry Petterson. Don was born May 13, 1934 in Winnipeg to George and Inga Miller. His early years were spent growing up in the North End. He started his career with Manitoba Hydro at Great Falls Generating Station in 1952 where he met and married the love of his life Shirley, on September 7, 1957. In 1960 they moved to Thompson where Don worked at Kelsey Generating Station as Operating Supervisor until 1971 when they moved to Gillam where he became Superintendent at Kettle Generating Station. In 1977 they moved to Grand Rapids where Don retired as Superintendent in 1989. Don was an avid volunteer. As family and friends were very important to Dad, every year we took a one month vacation and either traveled to British Columbia or had a stay-vacation in Manitoba with trips to Moonlight Bay at West Hawk Lake, where Dad always made sure that Auntie Marg gave him "what for" at least once for his loud infectious laugh. Together Don and Shirley enjoyed traveling and cruising before and after retirement. Upon retirement they returned to Thompson and enjoyed many hours fishing and playing cards with their good friends Charlie and Vivian Clarke. In 2000 they made the move south to Lac Du Bonnet where they spent 10 years and were active members in the Pioneer Club. Don especially enjoyed their daily coffee group. After suffering a stroke in 2004 he continued to enjoy his floor curling and bowling at the Pioneer Club. In 2010 Don and Shirley moved to Winnipeg. Don recently moved to Poseidon Personal Care Centre where he resided until his passing. The family would like to thank the wonderful nurses and staff at Poseidon Personal Care Centre for their excellent care, patience, guidance, and understanding. Funeral Services will be held Monday, May 4, 2015 at Glen Lawn Funeral Home, 455 Lagimodiere Blvd., Winnipeg at 2:00 p.m. with interment at a later date at Glen Lawn Memorial Gardens. Reception immediately following service in Common Room at 15 Leveque Street. In lieu of flowers, a donation can be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or the Canadian Diabetes Society in Donald's memory.
