MERLE AXELROD Our family is sad to announce the passing of Merle Axelrod on Tuesday, May 5, 2015 at the Simkin Centre. She was predeceased by her parents Isaac and Goldie Axelrod, her sister Debi Lubinsky, her brothers Joseph and Manny Axelrod. She leaves to mourn her sisters-in-law Pat Axelrod and Annette Axelrod, and their respective families. Auntie Merle, as she was known to so many, was born on August 23, 1918 and raised in Stenen, SK. She spent most of her working life in Winnipeg and in Los Angeles. Her commitment to family brought her back home to Winnipeg to stay. Auntie Merle was well loved by her many nephews and nieces, as well as grandnephews and grandnieces and great-grandnephew and great-grandnieces. We were all like children to her, and she worried over and cared for us as if we were her own. We will long remember Auntie Merle's cooking and baking and all those times we gathered round her dinner table. Her cinnamon buns were famous and generously shared, often carried off by friends and family as they travelled to many places around the globe. We are grateful for her life well lived. We would like to thank the great staff at the Simkin Centre for the comfort and care they provided Auntie Merle in her last days, when her strong-willed nature and independence gave way to old age. Funeral will be a graveside service at the Shaarey Zedek Cemetery (Main Street at Armstrong) on Wednesday, May 6, 2015 at 11:30 a.m. Entrance via Armstrong Street Gate 3 to Area 4 Section H. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Children's Rehabilitation Centre, 633 Wellington Crescent, Winnipeg, MB R3M 0A8, or to the charity of your choice.
