AMPARO (PAR) MADRIGAL PAGTAKHAN On May 10, 2015, surrounded by family, our dearest wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother peacefully entered the kingdom of Heaven. Her memory will forever be cherished by her husband of 56 years, Victor; children, Teresita Chiarella (Anthony), Jocelyn Striemer (Robert) and Arnel Pagtakhan (Agnes); grandchildren, Allegra, Amy (Marie), Mark (Emily), Grace, Adrian and Nicholas; great-grandchildren, Zoe and Lily; and siblings and relatives in Canada, the US, the Philippines and around the world. She was predeceased by her parents, Apolonio and Asuncion Madrigal. Par was born in Manila, Philippines on October 21, 1936 and married Victor in 1958. They immigrated to Canada with their children in 1973, settling in Winnipeg. She retired from St. Boniface Hospital after more than 20 dedicated years. Par truly lived her deep faith, not only by prayer and daily mass attendance with Victor, but through her meaningful relationships. She was "nanay" (mother) to not only her own children, but anyone on whom she showered her generosity. As her grandchildren grew up, "lola" became synonymous with unconditional love and care. She helped others through life's struggles with a kind word, listening ear and plate of comfort food. All those blessed by her gifts will be forever grateful. Viewing will be held on Friday, May 15, from 6:30 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. (prayers at 7:00 p.m.) at Glen Lawn Funeral Home, 455 Lagimodière Blvd. Mass of the Resurrection will be held at St. Emile Church, 556 St. Anne's Rd. on Saturday, May 16 at 9:00 a.m. The family would like to express their heartfelt thanks to the Health Sciences Centre SICU and A5 Neuro for their compassionate care. • I wanted to share this song with the family. I found this song while looking for a song for my Dad last Oct 2, 2014. May this song help you understand why she is gone. Heaven was needing a hero (Joe De Messina) I came by today to see you Though I had to let you know If I knew the last time that I held you was the last time, I'd have held you and never let go Oh it's kept me awake night wonderin' I Lie in the dark, just asking "why?" I've always been told you won't be called home until it's your time I guess Heaven was needing a hero Somebody just like you Brave enough to stand up for what you believe and follow it through When I try to make it make sense in my mind The only conclusion I come to Is that Heaven was needing a hero like you I remember the last time I saw you Oh you held your head up proud I laughed inside when I saw how you were, standing out in the crowd You're such a part of who I am Now that part will just be void No matter how much I need you now Heaven needed you more 'Cause Heaven was needing a hero Somebody just like you Brave enough to stand up for what you believe and follow it though When I try to make it make sense in my mind The only conclusion I come to Is that Heaven was needing a hero like you Yes, Heaven was needing a hero...that's you.
