Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryRAYMOND JUSTUS THURSTON July 14, 1923 - May 12, 2015 Peacefully on May 12, 2015 Ray passed away at the Portage General Hospital at the age of 91. He is survived by his wife Joyce, of 54 years, daughter Lori (Ray) Hartle, granddaughters Cassandra and Shaye, daughter Tracy Thurston (Wes Manulak), granddaughter Justine and grandson Reece. Ray was born in Portage la Prairie and lived there most of his life. He farmed for 42 years at Macdonald, Manitoba and worked for DND for 30 years in the snow removal department at CFB Southport. Ray enjoyed curling, baseball, golfing and hunting, until he found his true passion in life - fishing. He was most proud of his master angler gold pin, and said that this was better than winning the lottery. Music was a big part of Ray's life. He was happiest when playing music with the Thurston family. In the past two years, Ray looked forward to his weekly outings to the Lion's Manor day program. He also enjoyed visiting with friends for a daily coffee at McDonalds. A celebration of life will be held on Tuesday, May 19, 2015 at 1:30 p.m. at the Omega Funeral Home, 83 Royal Road South, Portage la Prairie, MB.
