Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemorySYLVIE CLAUDETTE MARIE DESROCHERS August 17, 1946 - May 21, 2015 It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our dear mother Sylvie. She was predeceased by her husband (Jim) James Robert Lagrou in 1968, her first born son James in 1994 and her loving mother Bertrande Desrochers in 1997. She leaves to cherish her memory son Robert and daughter Wendy Lagrou. Grandchildren, Daniela and Marco Tummillo; sister Louise (Roy); nephews, Jeremy (Regina) and Richard Thurston, and many close friends and family. After graduating from St. Joseph's Academy in 1963, Sylvie was married in 1965, and widowed in 1968 with two young children to raise on her own. She was a natural caregiver, her calling was nursing and in 1980, she proudly graduated at the top of her class from St. Boniface Hospital School of Nursing. Being Valedictorian was one of her greatest honours. Her kindness and compassion touched the hearts and souls of many. Sylvie enjoyed working in her yard, making stained glass and searching garage sales for antiques and collectibles. Her greatest love was for her grandchildren. She took them on many an adventure and never missed a milestone in their lives. A Celebration of Life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 30, 2015 at Glen Lawn Funeral Home, 455 Lagimodiere Blvd. Special thank you to the nurses and aides on 5E, your kindness and compassion warmed our mother's heart. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Manitoba Lung Association. AFTERGLOW I'd like the memory of me to be a happy one, I'd like to leave an afterglow Of smiles when life is done. I'd like to leave an echo whispering softly down the ways, Of happy times and laughing times And bright sunny days, I'd like the tears of those who grieve to dry before the sun Of happy memories that I've left Now my life is done. Hi Mom, it has been not yet 3 months since your passing. It feels like a lifetime without you. You have left us with so many memories, yet I still cannot seem to get past never seeing you again. Most days I awake thinking of you, wondering if you are happy and at peace with your loved ones in heaven. Yesterday would have been your 69th birthday, all of your dearest friends were here to celebrate with us. No one will ever replace the hole in my heart that was left by your passing, every day is a struggle. I hope that you are watching over us all, I could sure use a little help right about now. Some things never change hey. Your family misses you terribly. Some days I wish you would have just taken me with you, but I will continue on earth here to fight my demons and carry on. Love you Mom I wont ever forget what a truly wonderful mother and devoted person you were. My life just wont ever be the same without you here Love your girl Wendy - Posted by: Wendy Lagrou (daughter) on: Aug 18, 2015

You are now truly out of pain and breathing easy on the other side of the Pearly Gates Sylvie. It was always a great pleasure to run into you out and about, and I am so glad that I had the pleasure to count you as a friend. I am so glad that I had the opportunity to spend a couple of hours with you two weeks ago, reminiscing good times in our past. My heart felt condolences to Wendy and the rest of your family and friends. You will truly be missed, always remembered with fondness, and Wendy and your grand children, and all of your friends and family can rest assured that you will always be watching over them. PS...put in a good word for me with the All Mighty. - Posted by: David Gledhill (Friend) on: May 28, 2015

Sylvie took me under her wing when I arrived in Winnipeg in 1991. She treated me with love, understanding and has the biggest heart I have ever met. She made me part of her family and stood by me for many years. I am not sure I would be alive today if not for Sylvie. I will miss you with all my heart and so will my husband who also had a very close relationship with Sylvie You will be missed but never forgotten - Posted by: Cathy and Frank Sackfield (friend) on: May 27, 2015
