CAPTAIN ERNIE JONASSON 1931 - 2015 Peacefully, Ernie passed away with family by his side. He is survived by his loving wife of 54 years Kitty, daughter Donna (Ken) Jacques, grandchildren Tom (Robyn), Bruce (Angele) and Shelby, sister Ollie (Russ) Campbell, brother-in-law Gordon Simmons and many nieces and nephews. Having lost his father Adelbjorn at a young age, Ernie was raised by his mother Sigridur and three older sisters, Helen, Beattie and Ollie. He attended Isbister School and later Daniel McIntyre Collegiate. He found his dream job in 1954 when he joined the Winnipeg Fire Department. In 1955 Ernie was one of the founding members of the Fire Fighter Toy Campaign that repaired and donated broken toys to St. Joseph's Orphanage. After 37 years he ended his career as Captain at Fire Hall #19. Ernie was very involved with music. He started playing the trumpet as a teen, was in the ANAF band for 10 years and the Fire Fighter Band for 25 years. He played Last Post at numerous functions. He spent many happy hours at the family cabin on Lake Winnipeg and on road trips with his wife. Many thanks to family, the neighbours on Ridley Street, staff at Taché Centre 5C and Meadowood Manor for support over the years. A private Celebration of Life has already taken place. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Fire Fighters Burn Fund. Family and friends may sign a Book of Condolence at www.glenlawn.ca Glen Lawn Funeral Home 204-982-7550

Mrs. Jonasson, Donna and family. We send our condolences to your family. You were such great neighbors when we were growing up. Every time I hear "Found a Peanut" I think or Mr. Joanasson playing his guitar in our back yard with the neighbors over and having a great time. - Posted by: Marcel Hogue (Friends on Ridley) on: May 31, 2015

Mr and Mrs Jonasson lived next to us for as long as I can remember. I used to collect their mail when they would go out of town with friends! They were the sweetest to my brother sister and I. If they were seen outside you would without a doubt always be met with a smile and a wave. May you rest in peace Mr. Jonasson - Posted by: Ashley Arnason (Friend) on: May 30, 2015
