HELENE SIMARD It is with heavy hearts, that we announce the passing of our dear mother, Helene Simard (nee Gosselin) on Friday, May 29, 2015 at the Riverview Health Centre. She was predeceased by her husband Rene (1967), infant child Charles (1944), her daughter Juliette (2004), and son-in-law Raymond (2013). She is survived by her daughter Rita Repushka (Tony), son Daniel Simard, her sister Lorraine in Cloverdale, BC, grandsons Michael Duguay and Devlin Duguay (Heather), and great-grandchildren Jordan, Jackson, Lauren and Deric Duguay; also many sisters and brothers-in-law that she loved and numerous nieces and nephews she was very fond of. She was born to Ovide and Fabiola Gosselin on September 19, 1924 in St. Malo, Manitoba, the second oldest of 11 children (Oscar, Urbain, Etienne, Rose, Therese, Lorraine, Hortense, Roger (Simone and Dorothee). In 1942, she met the love of her life, Rene Simard with whom she had an extraordinary and happy married life. They lived in British Columbia and LaBroquerie where they ran the General Store then moved to St. Boniface. Our mother was an outstanding and meticulous seamstress sewing all the children's clothes as well as many wedding dresses, including her daughters. Mother had a deep faith in God and family and this is what sustained her throughout her life. She was our "rock" guiding, encouraging nurturing us, comforting us throughout our life. We were blessed to have had her in our lives. She will be remembered for her kindness, her positive attitude towards situations and seeing only the good in people. Her door was always open and she always made sure we had terrific "Reveillons" and made everyone welcome in her home. In her retirement years at Colombien, where she resided for 17 years, she was involved in many activities and took great pride in her participation in the choir. She enjoyed travelling, taking many trips to British Columbia for family reunions, an Alaskan Cruise, and trips to Nashville and Memphis and to the Black Hills with her daughter Rita. The family would like to acknowledge and thank all the nurses, caregivers and staff (too many to mention) who gave so much care, comfort and love to Maman during her stay there since 2005. They are like family to us and we are extremely grateful to them. Also we are grateful to our friends and family who gave us support throughout the years. Funeral Service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, June 5, 2015 at Glen Lawn Funeral Home. Interment to follow in St. Boniface Cemetery. Viewing will be held at 1:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory of Helene to a charity of choice. Family and friends may sign a Book of Condolence at www.glenlawn.ca. • Thinking of you Daniel and offering my condolences on the loss of you dear mama. Your devotion while she was in Riverview reflects the wonderful values she instilled in you and I hope that all the memories you have of your time together will help ease your pain at this time. - Posted by: Louise Elke (a friend from Riverview) on: Jun 05, 2015

  • I remember when cousin Hélène would come out to visit 'the farm' in St. Malo, (where I grew up) but it was also where her father (Ovide) had grown up. It seemed those visits kept her connected to her Gosselin roots and dad to his older brother's family. So sorry for your loss. - Posted by: Lucie Gosselin-Rodrigue ((cousin) Ovila and Cécile's youngest daughter) on: Jun 03, 2015

  • We are so sorry to hear of your mom's passing. God knew what He was doing when He came and brought her home. She had suffered long enough. She was a wonderful person and everyone loved her. Never said a bad thing about anyone. She has a lot of family where she has gone and all will be happy to see her. I do remember when you all lived in your house on Masson Street. Mimi was only 4 houses away and they visited all the time. I remember Helene coming for coffee at our house after Rene had passed, and she and mom would sit and talk for the longest time. It seems they always had lots to say. God bless her. She is now with our Lord who she loved very much. - Posted by: Armande Klapprat (Ricard) (2nd cousin) on: Jun 02, 2015
