IAN STEPHAN VAUGHAN It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Ian Stephan Vaughan of Winnipeg, Manitoba at the age of 67. On Saturday, July 25, 2015, he passed away peacefully, with family by his side, at Victoria General Hospital. He was predeceased by his mother and father, Kathleen and Maurice Vaughan. Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife Barbara Jean Vaughan; son Timothy S. Vaughan (Tzena); grandson Tyler; son Glen E. Vaughan (Devora) and his granddaughter Sierra. Ian was born March 27, 1948 in Transcona, Winnipeg, Manitoba. He attended the University of North Dakota in Grand Forks, where he met the love of his life, Barbara Jean Murray. They joined hearts in marriage on June 28, 1969. They began a life together in Winnipeg where they raised their two sons Timothy and Glen. Ian was employed with the City of Winnipeg Transit for over 35 years. He began his career there as a mechanic, at which he excelled and worked his way to management, retiring in 2001. During his retirement years, Ian loved spending time with his family especially his grandchildren. Ian enjoyed going for long walks, where he made friends along the way. He had a very good sense of humour, a contagious smile, and a heart of gold. He will be missed by the many people whose lives he touched. A celebration of Ian's life was held at Glen Lawn Memorial Gardens in Winnipeg with close family in attendance. The family would like to extend their appreciation to the staff and caregivers at Victoria General Hospital, Dr. Brian Sharkey, the staff of Glen Lawn Memorial Gardens, and all those who remember Ian in their thoughts and prayers. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Manitoba. Family and friends may sign a Book of Condolence at www.glenlawn.ca. Condolences & Memories (2 entries)

  • I worked in Ian's department when he was the Supervisor of Maintenance and I was an apprentice mechanic. I came into work after being up most of the previous night worrying about one of my children. I thought I was doing a good job of masking my feelings of worry. Ian walked up to me and asked what was wrong. I told him everything was great. He walked away and a few moments later came back and said, look I get it you do not want to talk right now but when you do my door is always open. I looked at him and he smiled that great big ear to ear grin and then said how about now Big Guy. We went to his office and I told him my problems. He really listened to me and then told me Chris you go home and take care of your family. Money was very tight for us back then I was very worried about missing work. When my next pay period came I went to Ian and said there was a mistake in my pay because I was not docked for the day I missed. Ian looked at my pay stub and said your right I'll have to find time to fix that. Ian never said anything more about it. Many years have passed since then I am a Supervisor now. I have never forgotten the understanding and kindness Ian gave to me that day. Ian really did care about the men he worked with, he will be missed. - Posted by: Chris Orr (Co worker Winnipeg Transit) on: Aug 05, 2015

  • I got to know Ian on a personal level while working for him in the Maintenance Department. I will never forget his kindness and understanding. One day He received a call from our Control Centre that one of our Buses required a Tow Truck. Ian paged me to his office. When I got the location, reason and the Bus number, Ian said go and make sure you stop and have an ice cream at the Spotted Cow as the broken down bus was located very close to that location at the corner of Red River Drive and Main Street. I hesitated and thanked him but I had to tell him that Because of divorce and child support costs, that I had no money. Ian looked at me and without question, pulled out his wallet, took a five dollar bill, gave it to me and said here you go, have one on me. Thanks Again Ian ! He is a person that I will Never forget. - Posted by: Ron Nelson (Co worker Winnipeg Transit) on: Aug 04, 2015
