ROY LEWIS DAVIDSON Suddenly and tragically, after a brief illness, Roy passed away August 27, 2015, at Concordia Hospital. He was born in Winnipeg July 25, 1943. Roy is survived by his loving wife Viola; sons Lee (Robin) of Duluth, MN, and Paul (Kelly) of Winnipeg; grandchildren Elena and Simon Davidson of Duluth, MN; brother Bob (Sandy) of Winnipeg, Erica Eyres of Glasgow, Scotland, and Jeri Davidson of Bemidji, MN. His memory is also cherished by numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. He was pre-deceased by his parents, Ken and Olive Davidson, and his beloved dog Andy. A special mention of gratitude for dear friends, Greg and Frances Winkworth, Kelly Ryback, and Tom Moody. A longtime East and North Kildonanite, Roy attended Prince Edward, Lord Wolseley Schools and Miles Mac Collegiate. In 1966 he graduated with an Honors Degree in Business Administration from the University of North Dakota. Sports played a major role in Roy's life. As a Little League baseball player in 1953, he was the youngest member of the EKAY All-Stars, and competed in the regional playoffs in Chicago. In 1959 he was quarterback of the East Kildonan Lions Midget Football team in its inaugural season. But hockey was his first love, from Tom Thumb at EK Community Club (now Bronx Park) to Junior with the Winnipeg Rangers, he loved his time on the ice but was most proud of his three years as a Varsity defenceman on the UND Fighting Sioux. Following college he attended New York Rangers training camp and spent two seasons with the Toledo Blades in the IHL. His interest carried through with his sons Lee and Paul, whom he encouraged and coached throughout many seasons in various sports. He was pleased to be one of only two fathers and sons cited on the IHL Turner Cup. Roy's business career was interesting and varied. Over the years in Winnipeg, Dauphin and Calgary he enjoyed sales and management positions with GM Pontiac Div., International-Harvester, Cigas, North West Wholesale, West Canada Micrographics and Deine's Imaging. During retirement Roy utilized his golf membership at Rossmere and the Meadows, read newspapers and espionage novels voraciously, avidly followed sports on TV, but he was happiest in the presence of his grandchildren, Elena and Simon, whom he adored. Roy also loved road trips with Viola to various parts of the U.S. and Canada. Over the years, they travelled to 39 states and 17 State Fairs. Cremation has taken place. A Celebration of Roy's life will be held Tuesday, September 8, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. at Mosaic Funeral Chapel, 1006 Nairn Ave. Winnipeg. Interment will occur later in Maple Grove Cemetery near Viola's family farm. If desired memorial donations may be made to CancerCare, MB. I just read the news in UND Alumni news that Roy had passed away. I was a couple years ahead of Roy at UND and acted as Manager/Trainer for the hockey team. I spent a number of weekends hanging out at the Davidson's in Winnipeg. I remember Blinky with great fondness and recall a number of incidents I will not repeat here. Rest easy buddy. - Posted by: Murray Olson (friend) on: Jul 22, 2016

Viola I am sad to hear of Roy's passing and my condolences to you and your family. I am glad I met him again and talked to him at length at a party 2-3 years ago. Bruce Hutchison - Posted by: Bruce Hutchison (former co-student in high school and friend of Viola ) on: Sep 16, 2015
