GISELA AUGUSTE P. BRIESE (1924 - 2015) Peacefully, on Tuesday, September 15, 2015 at Health Science Centre, Gisela Briese passed away at the age of 91 years. Gisela was predeceased by her parents Max and Minna Yagenow, her brother Heinz Yagenow, her husband Martin Briese and her daughter Amani D. Briese. Remaining to cherish Gisela's memory are; her grandson Marco Kohnke and great-granddaughter Savannah, granddaughter Tanja Boone (Adam) and great-granddaughter Mayzie Boone. Gisela was born in Berlin, Germany in 1924. She was raised by a very loving family. On March, 20 1943, during the Second World War, she fell in love and married the man of her dreams, Naval Officer Martin Briese. Shortly there-after, Martin went off to war, leaving Gisela awaiting the birth of their first and only child. Post War Berlin Germany, Gisela and Martin made a life for themselves and their new daughter. During the depression, times were hard, but they persevered running their very own Corner Store. Years later, the business sold and Gisela went on to work for the Deutshe Poste until retirement. In 1980, Gisela and Martin decided to leave Germany and immigrate to Winnipeg to be with their daughter and two young grandchildren. Being close to her family was very important. When Gisela and Martin became settled in Winnipeg, in their new home at the Fort Garry Place, they began their years of travelling. From Mexico to Hawaii, Las Vegas and cross- Canada train excursions, travelling became a hobby for them both. Gisela loved to travel with close friends she made amidst the German community. But most of all she loved to be by her husband's side. After Martin passed away in 1999, with a heavy heart, Gisela maintained a healthy social life consisting of family, friends and of course travelling. In good humor, she would have a few choice words for Martin's photo, which sat on her bedside table, for leaving her so soon. Oma always had a beautiful smile on her face that would light up the room. She loved to put on her "Sunday Best" and invite family and friends to join her for an evening out on the town. Oma's weekly German magazines from the local Portage Meat Market kept her busy with crossword puzzles and news from abroad. Oma had a daily routine of a morning swim with friends from the block that kept her active and social. Oma left a lasting impression on each and every person she met. Her genuine kindness and caring heart will be remembered by many. We all know Oma is now happily reunited with many friends, and most importantly her beloved husband and daughter. The family would like to extend a sincere thank you to the staff at Health Science Centre on GD4, the staff at St. Boniface General Hospital in the Geriatric Rehabilitation Unit and to the Home Care team who helped look after our precious Oma. "Familie ist für immer". If friends so desire, donations may be made in memory of Gisela to CancerCare Manitoba, 675 McDermot, Room ON 1160, R3E 0V9. To honour Gisela's wishes a private memorial gathering will be held to celebrate her life. Family and friends may sign a Book of Condolence at www.glenlawn.ca Glen Lawn Funeral Home 204-982-7550
