REV. DR. IAN SCOTT RENNIE October 22, 1929 - October 2, 2015 Passed away peacefully in the company of his children and grandchildren. Predeceased by his parents Helen and Charles and brother William Rennie of Winnipeg, and beloved wife Lee (Leonore Marianne McPhail). Ian earned both an M.A. and Ph.D. in History. He loved his Lord, Jesus Christ, and His Church past, present and future. This motivated his ministry through Intervarsity Christian Fellowship and three Presbyterian Churches: Knox (Toronto), Petawawa and Fairview (Vancouver). After serving as Associate Professor of Church History at Regent College, Vancouver, he was Academic Dean of Ontario Theological (Tyndale) Seminary until his retirement. Gifted as a preacher, pastor and scholar, Ian called many to obedient service to Christ. Generations of younger ministers are grateful for his wise counsel. Former students remember him fondly for his remarkable memory, mentoring and encouragement. After retirement Ian and Lee returned to Vancouver to share in the lives of their family: Mardythe (Gary Hewitt), Catherine (Brenda Walsh), Scott (Paula), Jillian (Andrew Strachan). Ian's greatest joy was frequent visits with his four grandchildren, Marc and Liane Hewitt and Collin and Emma Rennie. This gracious gentleman enjoyed all of life with utmost exuberance. Toodley-pip Arch! A memorial Service will be held Wednesday October 21 at 7:00 p.m. at Kerrisdale Presbyterian Church, 2733 West 41st Ave., Vancouver. We are sincerely grateful for the excellent, loving care from staff at South Granville Park Lodge and Dr. Will Johnston. In lieu of flowers, donations to Fairview Presbyterian Church or the Alzheimer's Society of BC would be appreciated.

Condolences & Memories (2 entries)

  • I worked as a rehab assistant with Mr. Rennie in 2012; although we never spoke, I always felt a special bond with him. One day I took a look at his bookshelf, and the contents suggested to me he was a man of God. I'd like to offer my condolences but also look forward to later meeting him in the age of resurrection, where we will surely have lots of time to talk. Thank you and hope his family reads this and have a lovely day. - Posted by: iris ( rehabilitation assistant) on: Jun 02, 2016

  • A fine man and a tribute to his faith ! We have nothing but fond memories of your father/father-in -law/grandfather. He went out of his way to help us find accommodations in Vancouver in 1979 when the vacancy rate was 0.5%. May the pain of his loss fade in the days to come and be replaced with warm memories. - Posted by: Garvin and Elvy Pierce (Family Friends) on: Oct 19, 2015
