She has left us at the age of 69 after a hard-fought battle with cancer. Barb was predeceased by her father William Tymofichuk and mother Anne. Barb will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by husband Marc, son Gerry (Erica) with Chloe and Danielle, and daughter Nikki (Darren) with Maya and Sophie. She graduated from the University of Manitoba with a bachelor's degree in Home Economics in 1969. After dating throughout university, Barb and Marc were married on October 17, 1970. Barb wanted more than a job teaching sewing at Singers and returned to school at nights, receiving a baccalaureate in education. This allowed her to pursue her dream career teaching elementary school in Winnipeg School Division #1. She taught until her retirement in 2002 after 25 years of service. Barb's passions in life were, sailing, quilting, her grandchildren and her friends. Her quilts and wall hangings are treasured by her friends, children and grandchildren and bring back loving memories of her. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 17 at Glen Lawn Funeral Home, 455 Lagimodiere Blvd., Winnipeg. The family would like to extend a sincere thank you to the staff of Riverview Health Centre Unit 3E for their care during Barb's last days. If friends so desire, in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the charity of your choosing. Barb was my very first cooperating teacher. I arrived a bit late my very first day. When I entered her room, she told me to go up to the front and teach a lesson to her Grade 2 students. I had never been in front of a classroom in my life. As we passed each other in the centre aisle, she whispered, "Are you every going to be late again?" That was her great sense of humour. She was a very warm-hearted person. She will be missed. Thanks, Barb! - Posted by: Gordon (student teacher) on: Feb 04, 2022

Barbara and I were friends in high school. She had an infectious laugh and giggle and had a funny habit of hitting you when she laughed. She was very intelligent and did well in school. We both belonged to the Science Club(Incubation Club) and hatched some chicks. Barb took them home with her much to her parents displeasure as they lived in an apartment. The chicks eventually went to a cousin with a large property. We had a lot of fun times at Pritchard Pool, movies and school dances. I am so happy that she had a wonderful family and life. My sincere condolences to her family and friends. She will be missed. - Posted by: Marlene Shuster(nee Refchuk) ( High school friend) on: Oct 16, 2015
