Date of Passing: Oct 15, 2015
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryIRENE ELINOR BEES (nee MUELLER) On October 15, 2015, Irene passed away at the Grace Hospital after a courageous battle with leukemia. She leaves to mourn in her passing her daughter Karen Parisien (Dave); sons, Bill (Rosie) and Ken (Kathy). She leaves 11 grandchildren, Lesley (Ron), Nicole (Gary), David (Sarah), Kelly, Matthew, Clayton (Antonietta), Kristy (Mike), Tara (Jason), Laura (Shahpour), Ellen (Franklin), Karen and eight great-grandchildren, Ben, Sophia, Charlie, Katherine, Jack, Drake, Louis and Taylor. She leaves behind her sister Carol and numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her loving husband of 59 years, Henry; her daughter Kathie and her sisters, Marian Kerr and Lorraine Wolfe. Irene was born 91 years ago in Blue Island, Illinois and immigrated to Canada when she was four years old. She was raised in North Winnipeg and attended St Johns High School and later lived in Norwood with her family. She met Henry, fell in love and was married in 1946 after Henry returned from Europe. Her working career started during the war at the St Boniface stockyards. Later she worked for many years at the General Hospital as a ward clerk on the Psychiatric ward and later for Dr. Doupe in private practice. She had many passions, always happy to try new pastimes such as drawing, painting, bowling, mall-walking, music and dancing. She was always ready to party with friends and family. She loved working with best friend Doris Dawson and other "church ladies" on fund raising activities especially making their meat pies. She had fond memories of friends at Colorado Estates on Ferry Road and later Sturgeon Creek II. Her strength, independence and grace were some of the things that the family truly admired. She had the biggest heart and was truly the "Queen Bee" of her family. She absolutely adored her great-grandchildren and always looked forward to visits, stories and the newest pictures. Special thanks go out to Pastor Michael Kurtz at First Lutheran Church for the spiritual support and to Dr. Johnston and staff for the special care she received at CancerCare. A memorial service will be held Tuesday, October 20 at 2:00 p.m. at First Lutheran Church, 580 Victor St. A reception celebrating Irene's life will follow the service in the church's hall. Flowers are gratefully declined. If desired, donations can be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or the charity of one's choice. Great memories of growing up down the street from the Bees family. Their parents were always super-kind. Hank & Irene would go out on Thursday nights and we'd destroy the living room and ourselves, playing sock hockey in a manner that would make the WHA blush! Many a time I slipped out the door as the "Battlin' Bees Brothers" sat simmering on the couch while getting an earful from Chief Referee Irene upon her return! A most gracious woman, my condolences to your family. - Posted by: John Jameson (Friend) on: Oct 19, 2015

Very sad this morning to read this. A full life to be sure, and one of the nicest people I ever knew. I spent many hours in the Bees house on Dominion Street, and it was like a second home. She used to tell me I could come in without knocking (I never did), she was that welcoming. Of course I send my condolences to Bill, Ken, Karen, and her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Henry and Irene were wonderful people and I only have good memories when I think of them. Rest in peace Mrs. B. - Posted by: Tom Harrison (friend) on: Oct 17, 2015
