LENA PURA March 28, 1924 - October 16, 2015 Lena Pura, age 91, has passed after a courageous battle with cancer. Lena was born in 1924, on the family's farm in Tadmore, Saskatchewan. She has two sisters Mary and Sylvia, as well as four brothers Steve, Paul, John, and Joe. As a young woman, Lena journeyed to Winnipeg every winter to work, but was back on the farm by summer to help. In 1946 she would meet her future husband, Bill. They would marry a year later, and were lifelong partners, sharing sixty seven years together. Lena and Bill enjoyed travelling and vacationed in Hawaii and Mexico, amongst many other vacation spots. They had two sons, Jerry and Len, who Lena loved with all her heart. Looking after her family came first for Lena, and her greatest accomplishment was raising her two sons. Each son blessed her with two grandchildren and "Baba" became very important to all of them. Lena also loved her church and was very active in it; always willing to lend a helping hand. She was a member of the women's league, helped with the Tuesday night bingo and making perogies, all of which she did with love and passion. She was always ready with a helping hand for anyone who needed one, always willing to listen and with a smile for everyone. She made a huge impression on every life that she touched. She was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend. Lena was predeceased by her brothers John and Paul. Lena will be missed everyday by the family she leaves behind. Her husband William, son Jerry (Susan) and grandchildren Paul and Christine, son Len (Sandi) and grandchildren Landon and Amanda and great-grandchildren Hayli, Presley, and Kainin, brother Joe (Josie), brother Steve, sister Mary, and sister Sylvia (Mike) along with many nieces and nephews. Many thanks to the doctors and nurses at St. Boniface Hospital CancerCare and Concordia Hospital for their very kind care. Funeral Mass will be held at Holy Eucharist Parish on Wednesday, October 21, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. with a reception to follow, officiated by Father Kwiatkowski. In lieu of flowers, donations in Lena's name can be made to CancerCare Manitoba, or a charity of your choice.
